Great looking build. I hadn't dropped in to Mud for a while. Curious, how will a 3F compare in power to a 2F? I never thought about a 3F in my LV. Thx for posting all your work. Great to see all the hard work come to fruition.

This is my 4th 3FE I think.....it's a really nice setup for the truck because it really feels like it's a Toyota....it looks like it belongs in there and the performance is spot on. The 3FE with a 4 or 5 speed behind it is a joy to drive(was not a joy to drive when in the 91 FJ80 with an auto...that was a dog of a setup). I have a nice 2F in one of my 40s that I use regularly....it runs great but it's not anything close to the 3FE in terms of smoothness or performance. It's getting replaced by a 3FE.
My 3FE powered 45 pickup has no problem keeping up with traffic....it's a great driver. I expect the wagon will be the same. Downsides are that the 3FEs are getting tougher to find and they're getting pricey when you do find one. Plenty of parts for them though. Wiring is fairly straight forward but I can tell you right now, getting all that stuff behind the dash of the LV is tough....it's smaller than a 40 and the wiper motor/defroster ducts really screw things up. My guy has had his hands full trying to find places for everything. Not easy.
I saw your post about the LS install.....do a 3FE. You'll be happy when you see a Toyota motor under the hood....and you'll love how it drives.

Making progress.....I asked my guy if the wires were just pushed up in the dash so it looked like something was getting done...he said they're in place and connected. Really cool. Monday he will work his way towards the passenger side, connect the dash switches, then take the connections back to the right side. Then we run to the front and rear lights/fuel pump/horns/etc. Getting closer and closer....keys are in the ignition!

I was talking to my guy about how smooth the truck runs and how little of anything is left. He said all the junk that is on those motors is totally unnecessary....and it's certainly gone on mine. I have a 3FE in my 45PU and it has never run smoothly....it's a Cruiserparts harness....total joke. It comes out next and gets redone. Looking forward to it.
The harness in the LV is cool because it's nearly impossible to see on the motor. I'm a little bummed about how it snakes around the firewall above the master cylinder but we had no other option to install it without seeing it come into the firewall. We could have made covers for it but I would rather have a clean interior vs. a firewall with a clean bundle of wires visible.
We'll run her tomorrow with coolant in it and get it up to temp....might even drive it out of the shop since brakes and clutch are good to go!

Drove her out of the shop yesterday which was exciting. More wiring today....shop is busy so we are only getting a few hours in at a time. I think by Friday the wiring will be wrapped up....then we get down to it and get this thing really driving.
Took LV#2 over to the storage building today(aka "The Museum")......there's a lot of cool trucks in that building just waiting for their turn.

Just read through the entire thread. Thanks for all the info and sharing the process. Awesome. The wiring connectors alone will help out a ton on my build. I don't remember having a difficult time sourcing a new fuel pressure regulator. I'll look through my parts list.
Your tranny tunnel solution is spot on. Great work there too.
I like the motor dollys posted with the 3FE's, do you guys make those or buy them?
Just an FYI the Dakota Digital temp gauge on my 40 runs about 10 degrees hotter than a second mechanical gauge I have. A few others have posted the same issue. Let me know if you come up with a solution for that.

Glad that this thread could help somebody......nice to be able to contribute to such a cool community.
We make our dollies. Not 3FE specific but with how many 3FEs are in this shop, maybe they should be.
We have a Dakota system in one of our customer builds....I always suspected the temps were off a tad. Would be nice to figure out what is going on there for sure.
The brake master looks great in pics and fits like it was meant to be there but the best part about it is how it performs. Like a modern brake system. Really impressive. It's just too bad they cost as much as they do.....it's a tough pill to swallow. In our case though, it prevents altering the firewall and it saves time as there isn't a bunch of fab work needed. Probably ends up costing the same in the long run....

Boy, I don't know if that's real gold-leaf like the moon lander, or just colored aluminum foil, but you definitely have set a bar few of us can ever reach. I've marveled at the cleanliness of your shop, something hardly ever seen at even the best shops for exotics.
