Motor mounts. Should I keep buying, or just slap a chain on it?

i just snapped one i just replaced gonna bolt it.

I managed to break my 7/16 bolt reving and jumping in the dunes a while back. I picked up the pieces (two halfs of a busted motor mount) and re-installed them with a new bolt. Kinda flaky but much easier that installing a "real" motor mount. This time I put the chain back too.

I really wanted to fab a new mount like the ones a few pictures back but when I got into it the smog pump is so close I decided to give up for the time being. It's tight but I think it could be done.

Meantime, it's pretty easy to carry a spare bolt.

Stumbled onto this photo...

Shows how close the Smog Pump bracket is to the motor mount.

After reading lowtide's suggestion, I cut off the studs and drilled through my broken DS mount and ran a bolt thru it. So far so good. Seems like it should hold for a while.......or longer.

got the bolt in mine and man it is awesome feels great driving again. ended up runnin a half inch bolt through it so it that breaks something else prolly did too.

I bought an after market MM, drilled a hole through it, tried to install and it was not even close to lining up with the frame mount hole. Comparing the aftermarket to the stock mount i noticed the aftermarket mount bolts are offset 1/8" and the stock are around 1/2"...all after i did the drilling.

Threw the old one back in and i am wondering if the FJ62 mounts are different than the FJ60 mounts. I am exhuasted so i may have missed something.

Anybody got pics of the chain method (Tring to get to katemcy any way i can this weekend)?
How long does the strap method last?

Thanks
Charles

i think the 62's are slightly offset and the 60's are straight. as i had a 62 motor mount on my 60 it was kinda a pain to get on but once it was on no problems (till it ripped) then i got a 60 mount and drilled it and bolted it down.

tho even if the 62 is slightly offset you should still be able to get a bolt through it at a slight angle and not have any problems. so maybe give that a shot.

Has anyone gotten a 62 to stay with the bolt method? I broke another MM with a bolt through it at the Crawl. I gotta get it right before katemcy, that granite is murder on the gear. I'm thinking I'll go 1/2" grade 8 bolt this time.

I've never tried the chain. Turnbuckle sounds overly complicated, but i may resort to that anyway.

after I broke my second drivers side mount I did a 3/8 bolt and a solid alum puck havent broken it in over a year and I broke 2 stocks in two trip at krock... but I dont drive mine on the street so I couldnt tell you if it vibes a hwy speed but you cant tell on the trail in 180 to 1 :grinpimp:

Looks to me like the so-called "Clamshell" GM MM might fit in the stock location. It would offer the same captured rubber-urethane/thru-bolt design of those pics that The Dude posted in a thinner package. My '91 Suburban has this style engine mount.
