Well it was time to downsize from two duallies (quadlys?) to one dually...so it had to check a few boxes.
  1. 6cyl Diesel
  2. Manual
  3. 4wd (duh)
  4. Room for skis and such to get around
  5. Bigger than a 40
  6. Under $15k USD
So a HZJ77 fit the bill and the one that popped up on classifieds was the nail in the coffin. Is it perfect? Actually the interior is quite nice and unmodified. Same with the engine bay.

Does it have rust? It does! but that's ok, this is my daily and it doesn't need to be pristine by any means. For the past 3 days, it has been doing it in spades.

Like anything else I work on, I'm pretty bland. Lift, wheels and tires and some other misc bits. So once the weather cools down and the garage opens up it'll be getting...
  1. Detail in/out - Done. Paint shined up great
  2. New lift and remove the lift blocks for the trans x-member and the shackle lift blocks.
  3. 315s wrapped around oem steelies
  4. Turbo
  5. More oem parts to replace the 455,000km bits.

and because I had it on hand - the worn out sticker was replaced:

Congrats on the JDM.. I like these a lot, especially with a turbo. I want one.
I really dig the Eddie Bauer blue/tan

Love it!

the 24v electric is the bomb.....dual type 27 batteries require the smallest bump to the ignition key to start

Order some replacement bulbs in advance.....

Haha yes - intercooler and 3" exhaust. Taking donations for that.

It really is - single digits overnight and one glow cycle - lit up instantly. Funny you mention bulbs - I already had some 0-30vdc LED wedge bulbs on hand so I was able to swap out a couple when I changed the headunit, but the 74, 194 and headlamp bulbs I put an order in for Koitos.

Oh, the last "to do" I have on my 77 is to convert to manual hubs and get rid of the e-hubs that are super expensive and require a special grease to service that is more expensive than caviar

I got lucky - this is already done 😂. I did price out the single switch to swap out the twin switch for hub lock.

And here I like the e-hubs on my 77 :D

I wouldn’t leave them on if I were planning any serious off road use with it but when they work… they work… :D

Congrats on the new 77 @mattressking

Well I've been pretty uninterested with posting progress these days, but had a few minutes to update....

So far the truck now has 35s on OEM steelies with 2" spacers. At some point I will put 80 rear rotors and hubs to poke the rear out some more, not too keen on the narrow axles on these flared trucks.

Aside from that.....new OEM 24v starter, ARB bumper, Koito fogs, Koito head lights, brighter Koito bulbs for everything while I was in Singapore, LEDs in the cab for dome lamps, new OEM steering wheel, Pioneer double din and a bunch of misc parts I just felt like buying that are too boring to post so here's some generic pictures.

Also whipped up a fog lamp harness to use the OEM wiring....which for anyone curious, you must use the Prado wiring diagram for a HZJ77 as it doesn't match the 70/71/73/75 diagrams, its ever so slightly different. That said, easily made with some terminals and voila, works off the OEM switch. The terminals in the engine bay are also different and waiting for those to arrive, 90980-10256/55 are long gone so I had to give it a go from Yazaki.

Next on the list is to hunt for the starter battery terminal cover, mine is missing the all-important terminal cap, and so far 82823-20080 is the closest...so I shall continue hunting.

The 4wd switch was a fun realization when I pulled the cluster out to swap speakers, the wiring for the non-hub lock 4wd switch is taped up so I bought a new one to go with my manual hubs.

Otherwise I grabbed some OEM bolts for Trans/Bellhousing as they are the perfect fit for the rear hitch I bought. JIS M12 with captured lock washer is a must to fit it correctly, no other hardware would clear this thing correctly. Not towing anything with it but it holds the bike rack perfectly.

Oh and lastly....I had to have an OEM tool kit, so I bought new Vessel drivers, jack, bag, etc etc. Now it is outfitted correctly. I can say for now - I'm happy I didn't paint the wheels....the junkyard hunting for 5 good 16's paid off.

Nothing wrong with an e-bike.

Whatever floats your boat. 😁

More wiring bits arrived so I can build my fog harness in style. The -10256/-10255 male/female connectors are gone from Toyota but Yazaki still sells them so I was able to get these and about 200ft of spare Yazaki wire to whip it up this weekend.

OEM Toyota on the left and Yazaki on right - only difference is the locking insert, which looks cool but doesn’t do much as the housing uses tangs and the terminals are tang-less.

Yes my nails are dirty, It's hard to get the dirt out everyday
