Turn signal harness adapters worked out great.

Not a whole lot of updates here. The 3rd has had a loose pinion so the spare 62 front axle I had turned into a temporary-ish donor for the 3rd. What started as a pain ( frozen fill plug), turned out just fine ultimately. Took the 3rd out, new oem seal, checked backlash and runout then checked pattern….wasn't perfect but it’s a major improvement from the stock unit (which I can rebuild now that it’s off). Also no, .19 isn’t the lash, it’s just the picture while setting up.

While in there, I cleaned up the bearings which were loose (someone replaced with Timken USA)….so I’ll need to swap those out but otherwise reset and she’s much smoother.

Tire rotation, spacer torque check and we’re back on the road.

Upside - disassembling the ‘62 axle is for two trucks, knuckles and birfs are going on the ‘72….and as much as I’d like, probably not using the axle housing on it, but hopefully I’ll find a good use for it, it’s far too good.

I badly want to convert to 80 rear hubs but the cost is astronomical compared to finding a complete rear axle….so ill wait….the real dream is 80 axles f/r with leaf springs and sprung over, however the 40 needs to be a driver first.

Next is TB/WP, rear door hinges and rear output seal, I don’t want to wrench much on this truck during the winter if I can avoid it.

The water pump has been weeping intermittently for the better part of almost a year….tired of the drips it was time to service now that ski season is upon us. Parts finally arrived this week so I could service the water pump, the current belt was serviced at 421,769km, so it made the most sense to service it all. Existing belt was in excellent shape and previous outfit only used genuine parts which was pleasant. While in there I exchanged the heater valve and hoses and upper rad hose, lower rad hose is in fine shape so I left it for now.

Exchanged the hardware and alternator bracket with new since it’s low cost and used Genuine water pump since it is inexpensive.

Ultrasonic made quick work of the intake plumbing and now ready to fill with coolant tomorrow.

Ultrasonic did a great shop on reviving the coolant reservoir and fan, both were in great shape just heavily saturated with baked on sediment.

Could I buy both new? Sure, but these are in excellent shape otherwise.

And now the motor is back together, just a little bit cleaner. Perhaps I’ll clean the engine bay now…haven’t touched it with anything since purchase. I did finally pop one of my dust collectors on the air cleaner….they’ve been sitting in a box for the better part of maybe 6-7 years.

That damn spring tensioner kicked my ass the last time I did the same job.
