Looks great. I'd leave that rubberized coating off the frame. It's likely to trap water and promote rust.

How about some specific rust proofing stuff like rust bullet?

Funny, we don't deal with rust much and a light spray of Kryon lasts about a decade. In fact the sliders on my FJ60 are bare steel and are just starting to surface rust after 3 years. Gotta buy some Krylon!

Yup, that stuff. I don't really expect anything to hold up to getting dragged over boulders. You tell me about a coating that will stand up to a 6000lb truck grinding it over boulders and I'll buy stock.

You think that undercoating will promote rust? I thought that because it's high adhesive rubber coating that it would fill little crevices in the frame and repel water really well. I was thinking about something like Chassis Saver or Rust Bullet but I liked the idea of a spray can coating that I can touch up whenever I need to. The primer I used is supposed to seriously inhibit rust and the inner frame coating that I plan to use does the same.

I need to move out to the west coast. Your sliders are bare steel and just starting to rust after 3 years? s*** man, I needed to prime this frame so it wouldn't start developing rust just by sitting outside for a couple of days!!!

Nothing tech to add but those are the best frame stands I've ever seen. I like your style!

What brand of primer did you use?

Yeah it will. Maybe the new frame will give me motivation to patch my body back together.

I used some Krylon zinc rich, rust inhibiting primer that I picked up at Advance Auto Parts.

Must me nice. I put my sliders on (during the winter) and within a month they were already rusted

I would think to use a paint on the frame rather than an a rubberized undercoating. Seems like undercoating would be for wheel wells, and sheet metal under the car.

I bet that 3M stuff is a really good product though, and if your buddy had a good outcome do it and post results!

That is a good point. I'll have to look into whether or not the 3M stuff stands up to fuels and other petroleum products.

Thanks for the support guys!! Rastaforte, the rest of moonshine is going to change drastically by the end of the summer. Things like sliders and other rust fixes took a back seat to drivetrain and a frame swap and since those two are closer to being done, the body is up next!!!

lol. I just wonder how DRASTIC.... I noticed your thread out on Cummins Forum last year (Early vs. Late Differences - Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum)

Maybe a transplant is in your future? Though now I'm just thinking, it would be interesting to solve fitting an I/C'd version of that beast (1st or 2nd) into a LC frame. My gut feeling is it is really, really squeezed even with electric fans out in front of rad. Anyway, you got more important matters at hand right now

Have a great weekend---I'm heading out to Georgetown to go visit my sorry state Rig. Currently jacked up in front for redoing those engine mounts - waiting for the C-channel mounts I'm having made by some friends next week. Hopefull the engine is still UP and not buried into the clay dirt.... oh, so nice to not have a GF right now..... "no woman.... no ...."

Time will tell. For now she will stay an all-Toyota crawler. I have always kicked around the idea of throwing a 6BT in but the 2F works well, so why change it

I am enjoying your build thoroughly, so keep at it! I expect some videos so we can hear that thing rattle to life.

Made some good progress this weekend. Got all the grinding finished up on the frame after flipping it over. Cut off the front and rear bumper brackets as well. She's ready to get primed and box in the rear section of the frame. God damn this frame is nice. Moonshine will begin disassembly on Thursday or Friday I think.

Just curious why you cut off the bumper horns?

If you have plans for a 4x4 labs bumper, now would be a great time to also cut out the rear crossmember.

That frame does look really good and it will be a shame to install a rusty body.

Johnny you are moving to the south. I'd skip the ruberized coating and go with a good quaility rust inhibiting primer like it sounds you are. I would use a good quality paint over it. I go glosse black, it cleans easier.

Between 8 and 10 hrs into the cleanup so far.

That frame does look really good and it will be a shame to install a rusty body.

Cut off the front bumper horns to install my SROR front bumper. Cut off the rear mounts so I can install my SROR rear bumper after I cut it up and work on it a bit. The center section needs to be rebuilt so I plan to use the stock rear crossmember.

The body looks rough, but she will get cleaned up over time.

Is there a lot of mud in the wheeling areas around NC? Cleaning the frame is not something I considered with the 3M coating, that would definitely suck.
