Wow! I just read your thread. Way to keep after it. Don't give up on getting a diesel swap in there. It can happen down the road. One of the next things I hope to do is convert to WVO probably using Plant Drive stuff. I might try to also make Rubithon in 2012. I need a toybox and I should probably be SOA, if I'm going to do it. We'll see. I've still got Alaska in my blood so that is where my money is going to right now. Good luck on everything.

:beer::popcorn: Chad

Thanks Chad! I'm moving along at a decent pace with my part time job. I want to throw a toybox in before the Rubithon but I don't know if I can foot that bill. I'll have to see how the finances look after I start my full time job.

The pictures from your Alaska trip are unbelievable. I wish I could make that trip too!!!

Check out the Extreme Chassis Black by Eastwood.
I have used at least 10 cans of the satin so far on miscellaneous parts. It is by far the nicest covering paint i have ever shot out of a rattle can.

Joe, is it worth the $5 per can over the cost of their regular chassis black? I expect to drag this frame over boulders and such so I will be repainting spots to protect from rust.

How many cans did it take to do your frame?

Its a 60 not a Heep, come on now!

To answer your question, no.

You got me. I like it. Do it!

You go first and then Ill copy you if it works out well. :)

Only thing I'm thinking about is how I'd do the joint at the top of the boat side where it meets the body. Since I'm still going to use poly body mounts, I can't weld the frame to the body...

What do you think about having the boat sides come up to the bottom of the doors, then having supports come over from the top half of the frame? :hmm:

I don't even know if this would be considered a "boatside" modification or just a modified slider idea, but here's my crude mspaint drawing.

I think that is a solid idea. IF I were to do it I would weld plate from the bottom of the frame up to the bottom body line of the door.... then cap it with a piece of 2x4 or 2x6 tube and then cut the door so the top half would still open and shut. Not sure that makes sense though.

I think I know what you mean. Instead of using tube the upper rail of the "boat side", use a 2x4 or 2x6 box section. I was thinking about using cutting board material for the sides instead of plate, like what you used for your skidplate.

What do you mean buy cutting the door?

I wish I had access to my computer so I could just draw it....

On the doors there is that "bottom body line" that is below the latch but above the bottom of the door that extends about the entire body length... my idea would be to follow that with a cut or section out 2" inches just above that line for the top side of the "boat side" tube. By making the "section" there you could a less conspicuous boat side and still retain the function of the doors.

I know exactly what you mean now. There was a mini build thread on Pirate that had boat sides go half way up the doors with the doors cut up so they could still open. I like that idea but that would make getting into and out of the rig too difficult, especially for a daily driver.

Has anyone ever done boat sides on a 60?

You have WAY too much free time on your hands I think. Just get the RUST fixed on that rig of yours... that will take up all the time you can muster... ;)

 Ain't that the truth. I'm prepping to go pick up my frame! I am unbelievably excited.

I lay in bed each night, unable to sleep because I'm dreaming of more things to do on my truck once I install a solid foundation.:D

Ah, gotcha. Somehow I missed that in the thread on pirate. That'd be way too much work for me right off the bat,
