I too am debating on rolling vs spraying. Anyone have close up pics to compare?

I watched the youtube video of the green beast that jonesy did via spray. Looked good and they seemed happy with it, so I am leaning to spray. That and the speed is awesome. Maybe more prep time....

On a second note, anyone heard from Magnetman? I have pm'd and emailed him and not heard anything. Really wanted to get Cygnus white color paint ready to go.

My post 273..

Here a few more close ups. I used the rollers..

Hey Magnetman,

Any way you could rename all the gallery photos on the Monstaliner website to include the colour name? I'm still trying to narrow down a colour choice and most of the photos do not reference the colour.

Thanks

I took a close look at this and it's going to involve way too much time right now. (Would have to rebuilt the entire gallery)

If you called me on the phone while we both looked that the same images I will tell you what you are looking at

When we have a new web site up next year this will be a priority to have descriptions on all pics

Probably a redundant question: I'm getting ready to do the inside of my 40 tub, except the trans cover and gas tank cover.
I'm doing the sides and floor, up to the break on the footwell to firewall. Approx how much of the Monsaliner will this take for 2 coats. Thanks!

Should be 1 gallon
Double check sq footage
ML covers 60 sq ft/gal in 2 coats

Okay, thank you. I'm still waffling back and forth between Red Head and Blood Bath. I've seen photos of both that looked good. And I've seen photos of both that look different. Lighting and camera make a huge difference. But I've got to pull the trigger soon before the snow flies.

I asked before but never saw a response, are there any deals right now? Any coming up? I plan on ordering 1 gallon of Chassis Saver, 2 gallons of Monstaliner plus tint, 1 quart of Monstaliner plus tint. All shipped to Canada. It makes it easier to convince the :princess: when there's a deal to be had.

So no large order deal? No IH8MUD deal?

Something that was raised earlier but never really addressed:

I'm now debating doing the entire car in this stuff (not just the outside). However, I really want sound deadening. So:

  • Does Monstaliner provide any sound insulation?
  • Can Monstaliner be used on top of an existing adhesive sound deadener?
  • Does the Man of Magnets suggest another product to use in conjunction with Monstaliner to get decent sound insulation?

I WAS planning Monstaliner on the outside of the truck (3-tone ), plastidip on interior trim, and dynamat (or quiet crap) and some kind of mat for the interior floor.

However, if I could just do the whole thing in Monstaliner, I'd be very happy. Any help/advice/pity welcome.

ML is a liner, so by properties of it's product it will give SOME sound deadening but probably would be very negligible. From my reading, to get the best adhesion out of ML you need to have it on roughed metal (see the prep instructions and the Rant of the guy who didn't prep properly).

With that said, I would not recommend putting over anything other than a properly prepped metal surface but double-check with MagnetMan (he is pretty responsive). For the best sound deadening you are going to want to do an interior sound deadening like FatMat/Dynamat/QuietCrap/etc. just about anywhere that may produce the vibrations we hear. I too am on the fence about doing the full exterior (thinking if I do I am going to get the 8B4 pigment mixed) or just bucking up and doing a full paint job and then lining the rockers like Reevesci and Irish.

Thanks for the help, gregnash. What you're saying is kinda in line with what I expected, just not what I hoped for. I can definitely see the advantage of having ML on the interior (especially with 2 big dogs), but I really do want to focus on sound deadening, so I've ruled it out.

The question as to whether to paint and ML or just ML the whole thing comes down to this for me:

Painting looks great, but not unique. It's harder to clean and maintain. And I'd rather spend the money on other things.

Full ML looks great (if done well), and is pretty unique. It makes cleaning and maintenance a breeze, and it can be done by me.

About the only undeniable advantage to painting that I can see is the effect on resale. To be honest, the only person I see separating me from my truck wears a black cowl and carries a scythe, so that's not a concern for me.

Either way, excited to see how yours comes out, and I'll post pics of mine when I can. Cheers for the help!

Flowstate you should check out Scrappy daddy's thread Slow 71. He is working on a great 55 series with a tremendous amount of detail. Check out his application of monstaliner over ceramic coating and sound barriers to the interior of his can and roof. I know he applied all via spray. He can give better detail on application and quality.

Does anybody have a chip set they aren't using? I am working on a project and need to check the silvers to see if they match my paint. Has anybody applied the silver liner?

Thanks!

Silver? You mean the Grays? If so I have all three I would be willing to send to you, but really you can order them from their site fairly quickly.

I only need the grays. The samples are cheap, but I don't need to spend $7 just to try 3 or 4 colors.

you can get four samples free from them. Go to their website.

Hey magnetman now that you guys have a Jeep Commando color how about a army green from the new FJ Cruiser? We need a 'true army green' color :)

I second this idea BIG TIME. I would buy a kit tomorrow and I think it would be very popular.

There is a world wide color matching system called "RAL"
It's used for paint, textiles, plastics, etc (It's like the Pantone system which is mainly used for printing inks only)
If you can find out if this new FJ color matches a RAL color # I can make it easily since we already have formulas for most of these colors

Do not look at this chart and think that anything in your mind matches one of these colors because it will not. Need a confirmation from a manufacturer that YES, the color you are wanting matches RAL XXXX
