I never waited that long between coats, around an hour is all I waited. I'd be afraid of the unused bedliner getting hard, unless you're mixing up some fresh. I removed the tape after the last coat had time to set up.

I plan to mix my only gallon all at once. I guess I can err on the quick side while waiting for the first coat to dry. Thanks. I'll post the results tomorrow. You'll be able to tell how good a job I did by the distance of the camera to the truck!!!

Yes, 6 hrs is way too long between coats. 2nd coat is ready to go down (rolling) when 1st coat has lost most of it's tackiness but you could still stick to it with fingertip if you press lightly. This should be 1.5 - 2.5 hrs depending on temperature (3 - 4 hrs in winter). Pull the tape immediately following 2nd coat and you'll be fine.

What happens with ML is that the 2nd coat going down relatively soon over 1st coat sort of re-softens first coat some. I've never seen an issue pulling tape unless left 4, 5 6 hrs after 2nd coat. At this point the coating stretches when you pull the tape and gets F'd up

Note to all: Tintable is always faster dry, shorter recoat and tape removal than black by at least 1/2 - 1 hour

Thanks for the help guys!

Still need Cygnus White? I have a few extra OEM matched spray paint cans. PM me your shipping info. Let's make this happen.

Send me one it will give me a head start
I'm still going to get the liquid tint from M32H32is because it will be a tighter match to compare tinted liner vs paint

Sending PM

Can ML be installed on a roof-top cargo box?

I have a Sportrack cargo box that I believe is made from ABS. It is not a smooth finish, and it is black. The box spends most of it's time on the roof of the :princess:'s silver Golf. I was thinking of putting ML on the outside of the box to cover some scratches, fades and to make it look new again. Will ML stick to it? What kind of prep is recommended for plastic?

Normal plastic prep has been to use adhesion promoter first but I think ABS is different from plastic Jeep fender flares.

I'm not sure on this. How many sq ft appx on this box?

Turns out yesterday was :princess:'s bday, so had to postpone application. First coat is on and I'm just giving it an hour or so before coat number two. Went on easier and nicer and cleaner than I thought. Stress level is now reduced.

All done! Now curing in my shop for a day or two.

Application was much easier than I thought and I'm happy with the way it looks. This is my first time ever doing painting of any kind on a vehicle. The ML instructions are straightforward and easy to follow.

Based on my experience, I have some suggestions for other liner noobs:

Find a better/thicker tape or other solution to cover the holes left after the removal of the flares. In circles 1 and 2 you can still see small depressions left at the sites of some of the holes. I covered the holes with thin aluminum tape I found at Canadian Tire. After applying the tape, there were small concavities that I figured would be obscured by the ML. The liner didn't completely obscure them, however. No big deal to me but might be to others.

Spend more time masking than I did. While masking I was having difficulty with some of the tighter corners. I thought I had it sorted well enough but it doesn't take an eagle eye to spot some angular boundaries as in circle 3.

Anyhoo, those problems are mine and not Monstaliner's. The mixing and application was a breeze and I really like the texture that comes with the rolling.

Thanks to Magnet Paints

Anyone do a tan 60? I was curious as to which color is the closest to the tan? "pass the bubbly"?

content removed

So I'm the owner of the 3 tone Pathfinder that Eric posted. I can confirm that his customer service has been fantastic and very helpful. Their products that I have use Chassis Saver and Monstaliner are outstanding! I've used Chassis Saver on a number of projects including customer projects now and have nothing but good to say about it. I've only used Monstaliner one project (the one your saw) but doing the 3 colors taught me allot about the product and their customer service.

I signed up to this forum because I saw the post I quoted. I've been around here many times before searching for information on unrelated projects but never felt the need to join until now.

This guys has all the signs of a classic disgruntled customer trying to bully his way into getting something he doesn't deserve. First off the only thing you posted to support your claims is the final part of this issue. It appears he's just had enough of dealing with you and threw in the towel. How convenient that you avoided posting any other part of the conversation or any photos of the prep work or damage. I'm a very big advocate of providing top level customer service but with that said you can only do so much for someone and we've all seen those customers that are completely in the wrong and keep pushing and pushing and complaining and fighting. In this day in age it turns into them trolling websites in an attempt to accomplish the, "I'll show him" agenda. You've shown us not a single picture or anything to support your claim. Here's is what I'm betting took place. I bet you ether didn't apply it properly or damaged it while expecting it to be invincible and now want him to fix your error.

Sorry guys for stepping in just for this but what this guys is doing is complete BS. Never and I mean never take the words of a disgruntled customer that feels the need to troll like this. 9 times out of 10 they are in the extreme minority as far as customers. Their goal is to bring down the big bad company that didn't jump when they said jump. They know damn well they had a big part in the product "failing" but they will never own up to it because they feel it's the business's responsibility to fix their errors.

Here is my experience dealing with Eric. I was going to paint my truck to look the way it does now. I was talked into using Monstaliner instead and couldn't be happier with it. Eric advised me whenever I had any questions and even offered up his cell phone number so he can be reached after ours. Once my truck was finished I took it to go wheeling 12 days later and damaged the finish on the front bumper. I smashed it into a rock. A couple times lol. The Monstaliner did come off in that area but we're talking about a 5000 pound truck smashing into a big rock. I've used another bedliner on my bumpers before Monstaliner and believe me when I tell it it came off when that happened before. None of them are invincible. They can be damaged. However Monstaliner it's strong as hell and prevented me from having nice pin stripes down the side of my new finish from all the tree branches on a very tight trail system.

Well anyway onto my point. The damaged was cause by my own doing and I told him I was going to order a few repair kits because I'm sure I'll be doing it again in the future. He told me not to place my order and he would send me some for free to repair the area. Now that's good customer service and not what this guy is claiming.

Sorry buddy for calling you out on the BS but I'm not buying it. Now how does it feel to have some step in and smash your credibility into the dirt? It sucks doesn't it? Magnet Paints and Eric have been nothing but good to me as a customer since I started using their products. I've learned allow about how to use them properly and never once claimed anything was a bad batch because I didn't apply it properly. If you're looking for a miracle in a can you're not going to find that. I can go buy the best paints on the market and have them looking like a complete mess if I don't apply them correctly or assume they can withstand road side bombings lol. You claim you got a bad batch but why are you the only one complaining? Do you think they make batches by the gallon? If it was a bad batch I'd bet you'd find a whole lot more people bitching about it than just you.

Oh and here is a couple shots of my ride taken 2 days ago looking awesome as hell with her 3 tone Monstaliner finish.

Hey Magnetman,

Any way you could rename all the gallery photos on the Monstaliner website to include the colour name? I'm still trying to narrow down a colour choice and most of the photos do not reference the colour.

Thanks

I'll see what I can do over the next few days

I think I'm going to have to go with Blood Bath. I wanted to do Red Head but every photo I've seen looks like a completely different colour. Plus, sticking to a colour close to my OEM will make the job easier. I won't have a different colour under the hood and inside the doors.

Magnetman: It would make colour choosing much easier if you could have several colours on one large surface, so that the photos are taken under the same conditions. One could "calibrate" their display to show the colours properly. Just a suggestion. Maybe use the side of an old semi trailer, or box car.

You can expect my order soon. 3 gallons of Blood Bath, one quart of Pyroclastic (for trim) and one gallon of Chassis Saver in satin. Any specials on? Because that's close to a $700 order!
