as well as looking at a lawyer you may want to look at small claims court, that won't cost you much and could be -depending on the state I guess- enough to cover your damages. Very easy to do and you only have to convince the judging official. I did that once (not a vehicle ) and all it took was to show that the guy who did the job used a tool that an average person would think of as below reasonable standards. Your pic of the pile on the floor is probably that smoking gun together with the 12 mile distance. Whoever is in charge at that dealership knows they stand a very good chance of losing.

How about giving the dealer an opportunity to "make it right" before you light the cross on fire?

I think the OP has already approached the boss right? Now he needs to take it further, if I left something like this to brew then I think my blood pressure would get the better of me, and I might do something I would regret later.

Dave

Cooler heads prevail... Toyota dealerships are some of the best at taking care of their customers. Period.

Called last night and explained the situation to the 2nd in command. Was told I would get a morning call today from the main service agent per the assistant service manager. No call. Three calls and messages left today then nothing. So I called national and filed a complaint. I'm going home to Texas and my Cruiser is jacked. So I'll fly and rent a car. I've also placed it in dispute with my CC company. Sold my 1994 4Runner in 08 and bought this. Never been given s*** by Toyota service writers and not given a return call at a manager's word. Negligence + damage and no dialogue=I've taken it to the national level.

So lets set the record straight, as the Service Manager of Toyota of Colorado Springs, I guess i cant understand why this has gotten to this point. We drove the Cruiser 80-90 miles after repairs, yes the radiator was loose before dissassembly, and after i pulled the tech in about it when i knew it was coming in on the hook, we should have recommended the radiator from the get go. But hind sight is 20/20 beachcomberspi as soon as you called with the problem on the side of the road, i sent a tow truck to have it hauled back. when we determined the cause of the failure, i told you that we would pay for the radiator AND put a new head gasket on knowing it had been overheated with a supercharger. A no brainer, this was our baby and we owned the issue, all before you posted on this forum. Not to mention you calling my GM like i wasnt taking care of you???? i have called and left a message with you giving you my personal phone #. I have been a shop foreman for Toyota as a MDT for the last 10 years before this with Dan the Man. I have worked on more Cruisers than i can count and my integrity has never been questioned. Just keepin it real.

I knew there was another side to this story. Knowing that it was a Larry Miller dealership and a highly respected Mud member works for a Larry Miller dealer I was waiting for the whole story to come out.

You didn't respond this morning nor did the assistant manager as promised.

Your service writer Gina said the tech didn't drive it even as far as Monument. Not even close to 80-90 miles. Your tech put all kinds of stuff on top of the radiator when it was off the vehicle. And on the fins. I have photos. To say it was "loose" is not owning anything. Your dealership caused this. He broke my EGR sensor as well. The radiator ran fine for the past 3.5 years until your shop worked on my vehhicle. Then it went about 10 miles. Again I have received no calls from you as promised by the assistant manager.

There is so much more potentially involved internally; on a hot day after a catastrophic coolant loss and a massive, long term heat soak than simply a head gasket and a radiator. Additionally the overflow and cap spewed hot coolant all over my engine bay.

I paid your dealership 2200 for the HG and 4200 in labor with miscellaneous = 7376.91 and now I am flying back to Texas and renting a car so I can fulfill my commitments. You've cost me more money than I've already paid your dealership.

The heat soak will be an asterisk in my mind amd my Cruiser from now on. What's weakened? That type of failure is so hard on a vehicle.

You owned the absolute least possible potential damage and are "taking care of it. "

Toyota field office in Denver will need a response from you. You can own it with them also.

You can own it with my credit card company as well.

And the rental car.

And the plane tickets.

You blew this one. You didn't respond in a timely manner. Nor did your assistant. Your tech broke things. Your service writer had the tech adjust two shocks and adds two hours labor. This is almost exactly what the EGR sensor cost....so you break even? What a coincidence. I asked only for two shocks to be put on. Two hours, really?

You see that pile of parts stacked on the radiator? I'll be dealing with issues from this instant coolant loss for years likely. And my guess is y'all will not be open to the possibility that it started in your dealership. This sucks.

You can get out of my thread, please. The only thing I've questioned is why not a call back? NOT your integrity. 99/100 guys in a bar would stand up and call bull**** on you right now; particularly with your years and years of experience, so just stop.

The story always has two sides. And this Lebowski clip is funny but this new information is sugar coated. And I've never once spoken to him. LHM and a trusted member can still totally jack things up. A tow, HG and a radiator fixes it all-glad we are keeping it real.

The record is not even close to straight on this one.

"CERTAIN INFORMATION HAS COME TO LIGHT"

I knew there was another side to this story. Knowing that it was a Larry Miller dealership and a highly respected Mud member works for a Larry Miller dealer I was waiting for the whole story to come out.

Here's the last thing I will say about this. I'm not doubting that they screwed up. I don't know to what extent. I also know that in the heat of the moment things get said... I had an '08 F350 King Ranch that kept shutting down because of the exhaust gas issue they had. It was brand new. Shut down four times, in Dallas rush hour traffic, while pulling a trailer. I was furious. I could've screamed and yelled. I could've posted things online. I didn't. Instead I just documented and documented. Kept records. The dealership wasn't very cooperative but finally they came around and wrote me a check for the full amount I had paid for it. The owner of the dealership thanked me for my patience and asked me if I was ever in the market for another 1 ton diesel if I would give them another chance. It was an inconvenience sure but me yelling and screaming and threatening a lawsuit wasn't going to make things any better. The dealership has much deeper pockets than you. There are two sides to every story. The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I also had an issue with a Honda Passport. Long story. Don't ask. Honda gave me all of my money back plus sold me a new 1996 Accord EX-L V6 for $15k (20k off sticker) for all of my troubles. I never raised my voice once.

My advice is to be calm. You'll get a lot farther than by blasting them and threatening them. Just my experience. The old "more flies with honey than vinegar..." approach.

Come on Dan, why toss logic into a perfectly good witch hunt?:ban:

I mean really, totally wronged, like, parts on the floor wrong! Don't these people understand that these are not just any parts, they are Cruiser parts and should be treated with respect! How could they possibly be run again after suffering that type of indignity?

Oops, better go pickup the parts off of the floor we took off this afternoon. Nah, they came off a 2FE/FJ40, so likely much more durable than those fru fru 1FZ parts? In fact that whole motor sat on the floor for a couple of months, until we got around to tossing it in the rig, so well proven. :hillbilly:

I'm the one who set your appointment, mentioned my background, we had a lengthy conversation. We will thoroughly test every part of the cooling system, we will have the head checked at the machine shop again, I will personally measure the deck of the block. We will stand behind any consequential damages, and I'll more than likely drive the darn thing to you myself. This isn't a pissing contest, I'll make this right and I called and left a message with you today, I have it on my office phone for gods sake. I'll call you tomorrow again this doesn't have to be this hard, no sugar coating just doin the right thing. Of course the tech shouldn't be stacking things on your radiator!!!!!! I know Gina shared with you my intentions on this and given the chance would validate your complaints in a civil manner. This is the reason for public forums. Believe me when I say things can and will go wrong sometimes on big repairs like this. It's how we handle the issue that determines our moral fiber.

I am suprised at the responses of some of the members here that I believe are held at a level of higher accountability than most. The man has been damaged and the level to which that rises non of us know, but I know what heat does. I don"t like what I have learned here. I think I have misunderstood some Of what I thought I saw In the Past.

Well it sounds like if Toy4All sticks to his word on ensuring everything is completed as he says this is a closed matter. If I was OP I would ask a moderator to lock the thread until there is an outcome.

I think these well respected members just don't jump to conclusions based on one person's view of a situation. I have seen multiple posts like this and see that there are typically two sides to every story and that it is best to not jump to conclusions until all of the facts are out there.

Also, people make mistakes. It happens all of the time. I'm confident that the Toyota dealership will handle things with the utmost professionalism. It's what Toyota does.

Rich on IH8MUD...

Now that's something I NEVER thought I would see.

And I can confirm that Rich has probably worked on more Toyota Land Cruisers than anyone in any dealership I know of.

Though man he would curse up and down when one rolled in.

;)

I'll come over and help you by laying s*** on your radiator fins. And when it pops I'll have my service writer tell you it's because it was improperly positioned even though it had worked for 3.5 years. It's not a witch hunt. But if there is a Toyiota dealership nutswinger on here I'd venture a guess who that is.
