so other than my newly milled head and gasket; what other issues can overheating cause in components. HG and radiator gonna be redone at no charge by Mr. T but it 1) it was so fast to spill it went red in a split second and was in the red for 25 minutes roadside. 1) I've got to fly to Texas, rent a car and then come back up here to Colorado at some point and pick it up. "Gina" at the dealership basically blamed the radiator on it as it wasn't mounted correctly before they did the work? WTF? Nearly 7500 bux to have it done correctly and 12 miles outside the dealer my baby beaches herself on I-25. They also broke my EGR SENSOR which they compensated for by adjusting 2 shocks....anything else they need to replace after a 25 minute heat soak? I'm so pissed I can barely type,
The topper is Gina stated " you took it to full operational temperature". Yeah, no s*** it's called driving! I asked her if they did that and she said well we didn't drive it ten whole miles. Great work. I'm gonna be disputing some of this with my CC company. Anyone have experience with that?
Rant ended for now....not once has she left me stranded. Except this this work by Larry Miller of Colorado Springs. Fawk this!!

Here is the list of my last few weeks I've done or had done. And they miss the most basic check-up to heat and drive more than around the dang block!

See attached photo of the Toyoya Red Coolant stain-massive.

Sorry man that sucks! Seems very fishy. I would bet some type of vapor lock or air in the cooling system that was not circulating. System was probably not bled, not many cars/trucks require the front end to be lifted anymore.

I am really hoping that a Larry Miller dealership will make this right. I would just keep escalating the issue until you get the exact answer you want.

OEM Shocks are not adjustable. The position of the radiator was the same when you brought it in. How come it is responsible for overheating now?

Sorry to hear about your experience. Try to stay calm and don't deal with anyone but the biggest manager the place has to offer. These wrench monkeys are the only ones who are going to make it right, so try to remember that when talking to them. Best of luck.

I feel for you man, good luck!

I wonder if there wasn't air caught in the block. If they only drove it briefly to check for leaks, the temp gauge may have not hit the golden zone to make it move.

I think that's why some people call them stealerships, cause they take all your money!!!! I do have to say that i think they didn't bleed all the air out of the cooling system before they gave the truck back. Oh, and Gina telling you they didn't drive it a whole 10 miles, that sounds like a dealership CYA story to me.

WTF does Gina know, anyway? like she got the rundown from the tech- right- she was reading off the Oh**** card...make em eat it...

I'm wondering if my new water pump has damage. If the Pistons, rods and cylinders got so hot they are a weak link now. Never seem a fluid leak so fast and the needle go into the danger zone. It split along the entire bottom so gravity helped purge it. So pissed! Engine bay hosed down by the overflow reservoir. Dangit...

Water pump should be fine it is pretty robust and simple. Rods would be tough to hurt from a quick over heat, pistons rings and cylinder wall are possible but it usually needs to get pretty hot, like driving without any coolant at all. If it erupted and you immediately shut it down, you will probably be ok.

I was on the interstate when my radiator exploded (the top tank split in half lengthwise), so my truck when into a high heat soak as well. Mine was caused by cogged type belts breaking when the AC switched back on in a wide open throttle condition. The belts came off, wrapped around the water pump, the radiator cap did not relieve like it was supposed to (it was gunked up by the PO mixing red/green).

I installed a new radiator, hoses, and other while I'm in there parts. I have since had a Blackstone oil analysis and my HG is is proven to be OK, no coolant losses, and no issues. I think you'll be OK, but the dealership story sounds like they are trying to cover their butts. Any shop should bring the vehicle to full operating temp, and double check fluid levels before allowing the customer to take it back.

If you had the rear main seal done, did they pull the engine to do it? Or did they do in frame? If they pulled the engine, then they also pulled the radiator (most likely).

Good Luck! That's a pretty big bill to spend to then end up with such serious problems!

They pulled the head, radiator, transmission to work on the engine. They would have been WAY better off to have pulled the engine (usually with the transmission and transfer case attached) to do all the work you had done.

Yes, they obviously pulled the radiator and shroud and all that. The fan clutch was also off. As far as the broken shroud goes, most of them are already broken, but you have reasonable ability to believe they did, based on all the crap stacked on it. That was the radiator they put BACK IN and is now exploded? They may have jacked up all the fins on the radiator by stacking on top of the shroud, then stacking other crap on top of it. That in itself could cause an overheat condition.

Pictures are worth a thousand words thousands of dollars.

Yeah, if that radiator went back in then that was seriously stupid of them to stack s*** on top of it!!!! Also, by the looks of that 'shop', I'd say it's the dirtiest/cheapest Toyota dealership shop I've ever seen. Looks like my damn garage!

I'm kinda diggin' the metal parts laying across the top of the battery.

I would NEVER do that from a safety standpoint.

I can see fins smushed in that last pic. Can't tell how many, but they're there.
