That was an excellent video and it answered almost every one of my questions! Your effort on the Tesla headunit deserves so much more attention. I had recalled someone had installed this but took awhile to find this thread as it's a bit buried. Perhaps it may deserve its own thread?

My aftermarket BT adapter is getting flakey and I really want to do this. Seems like you've been thoroughly happy with this once you worked through some of the details?

I see there's now Android 9.0 units coming out. Wonder if it'll make any difference.

Is surround sound maintained? One of the things I love most about the stock system is enjoying the kids movies through their soundtrack. I score these in my head based on their soundtracks. :)

Any other updated thoughts?

I might be watching for a black friday sale.
The bluetooth is what started my search for a replacement as well, and then i got all the other benefits in my head and pulled the trigger eventually. I've been happy with it so far. No real issues that I can complain about. Sound quality is good, the factory amp and surround work just like they should, and performance is good too. It's a pretty well designed unit and definitely far far better than the OEM Toyota/Lexus unit.

I may have jumped the gun and bought a used one on eBay with the intent to reprogram; however, as I'm digging into details I'm reading that I have to wipe all the remotes, and then reseed either via a sketchy website or take it to a dealer... Was yours new or used? What's you do for the key?
My keycard was used. I was able to program it just fine.

Any thoughts on mileage now that it's been awhile?
I haven't taken any road trips that allow me to rack on a bunch of highway miles lately, so I haven't had a good comparison trip. But what I have noticed is that my MPG is much better at certain speeds. I get much better MPG around 75-85 MPH. The sweet spot seems to be right around 75-80 MPH. I'm sure you'd have different results depending on tire/wheel combos and weight of the vehicle with aftermarket accessories.

Small power steering fluid drip over the weekend. Dropped it off today for a full replacement of the power steering rack with brand new OEM unit, tie rods, and any bushings/balljoings/etc... it may need.

That rack replacement is going to be pricey, my local Lexus dealership quoted me around $3K for that job.

Yup. With fluids, shop supplies, and a fresh alignment I'm right at $3200.

UGH! And that's a job I'm able to do...
They're pulling the motor completely out per the OEM repair procedures. Will give me an opportunity to see if anything else needs attention. But so far they said everything else looks good. Fingers crossed.

What options did you get with Android system? I just went to their site and I got an itch, and those type of itches usually lead to the checking account taking a hit. The cost of the unit is tolerable, but the add-ons can push it up to the point of pain. My '08 didn't have 360 degree cameras, I always thought that was a cool option ($160) to have although finding the expertise to hook it all up is another thing. TPMS ($59), I already have that feature, but they offer that too, not sure if I need to buy it if I already have it onboard. The music apps also were a bit confusing, I am a Pandora guy and plan to stay with that app do I need to get one of the three other car play type of additions? OBDII diagnostics is a requirement.
Speaking of install, how was it? Fairly straightforward?

Thanks for the help -

Picked up one of the credit card key fob's. Programed it with Techstream, very easy to do. Took me 5 minutes. Works perfectly, and now I don't have to carry a key in my pocket anymore. It fits perfectly in my wallet.

I think I just got the apple/android carplay dongle. Apart from that I also purchased a 360 camera set off of amazon that I liked. The factory TPMS still functions on the gauge cluster, so I didn't want the aftermarket one.

I bought it used on eBay. I paid $195 for it. Make sure you get one that is unlocked so that you can program it to your car.

Just picked up the truck. Fresh new front steering rack, tie rod ends, and bushings. Steering feels right and new. A pleasant susprise, they found no other issues with the motor was out. No leaks or anything. Fantastic!

$3200 service and well worth the peace of mind.

Did 5 power steering fluid exchanges for a total of 1.25 quarts today. To make sure all the old fluid was out of the lines and everything with all the new hardware.

My suspension has been feeling a bit bouncy lately. I did a bleed and flush for the AHC fluid but that didn't make much difference. I went ahead and picked up all four new accumulator globes this week. Will be replacing them in the next few days.

Take lots of pictures!
I did better. I made you guys a video. I'm uploading it now. I'll post a thread with the video and links as soon as it finishes uploading.

I installed an old bluetooth OBD2 adapter I had to see what I could do with it on the Android headunit. Pretty useful. See what you think.

Back to an OEM Toyota air filter, as a lot of my driving coming up this year will be in areas with lots of construction so the K&N won't filter enough. Also added a filter monitor into the airbox.

Converted our boat trailer from surge brakes to electric brakes. Went with the Tekonsha P3 brake controller, along with the Toyota/Lexus plug'n'play harness. Got it in 2 days from Amazon. Comes with the bracket, controller, and Toyota/Lexus harness:

On my 2009 LX570 the plug is located right behind the mirror controls. It is plugged into a white plastic "dummy" block, so you have to unplug it from that and plug it into your plug'n'play harness. Don't forget to connect the loose white wire on the plug'n'play harness to a grounded screw.

Then I ran the harness through an opening in the black plastic under-dash panel, which lined it up perfect with where I wanted to mount the brake controller:
