Yeah the 1FZ-FE is a very overlooked engine in the US. It is every bit as good as the 2JZ. But there was no Vin Diesel movie about Land Cruisers. lol. But the 1FZ-FE is very often pushed to 2000+hp overseas.

Everything is readily available. Forged rods and pistons, ACL bearings, Cometic head gasket, ARP studs, large valves, etc. All can easily be bought and a motor built. I just don't really know anyone in the US that has done it. Wait I take that back Titan kind of did it, but they had a custom destroked crank made and different pistons to rev to 10,000+rpms.

I've seen the destroked motor you speak of.

I have an pipe dream, fueled by the hack rat rod, c10 air bagged guys at work who suck.

Toyota stout(CA, pre smog), awd w ifs and 80/100 drivetrain. There's endless sc/ls400s on craigslist for $1500 w minor issues. Also a bunch of sc300s and NA 2jz cars.....

I live across town from the 1uz/r150 adapter peeps you see online and have sold them oil pan flanges for that motor.

I'm dumb on tuning. But have friends who are dumb on suspension, but keen on tuning....

Anyway. Thanks for the Utube links. Always exciting to watch. I imagine I'll FAWK with this stuff sooner or later.

I have a 1uz and 3uz sitting in my garage right now. Arguably one of the best motors Toyota made. Certainly the best once you take into account weight, balance, length, etc. The only problem with the UZ is that NO ONE is really running it. While the guys in the middle east are at least building the 1FZ, the UZ series of motors is a red headed step child. The rods and pistons for it are crazy expensive. I had drawn up plans to do a single front mount turbo with a divided housing, the firing order is odd so it made the manifolds look crazy but cool!

Even the alternator looked good, guessing it's original. No rebuild sticker, OEM, etc. Constantly impressed with 18 years of use.

Oh I think the UZ/R150 adapter are really cool, but the R150 does not live behind a FI 1UZ motor, and I am not sure a stock 1UZ with 250hp is adequate anymore. But in a Stout like that you could probably get away with a stock 3UZ. Which is 300hp and 325ft/lbs, it moves the LS430 very nicely and it weighs over 4200lbs with me in it. In a Stout that will weigh 1000lbs less than that it would be badass! And really the 5 speed auto in the LS430 is good.

1UZ's are awesome ..there is one near me that produces killer power and street ability for what it is.

Did the TEQ mounts for lights today. Very nice product very well made. fits tight might have just a touch of rub on the hatch but that's because of the line-x. Now I just need to figure out how guys are running their wires into the cab.

with all the upgrades, why not go with the photo man bracket and upgrade to a higher output alternator?

Because I am too cheap. And really I don't feel like I have that many upgrades. The only thing that is a huge draw is the winch and that draws from the battery much faster than any alternator is producing. The lights are small draw, and everything has been replaced with LED except the headlights and turn signals. I am Ok with the stock alternator. If I had dual batteries, a big fridge, big incandescent lights, etc it might make more sense to me but really I never had a problem with the old alternator except that it was 17 years old I think. Lol

Ok finally wrapped up the new alternator install, thanks @beno for fixing USPS's screw up. Now when I used to show mid 12v's I show 14.0-14.4v. Never saw a charge light so scangauge saves the day again.

Also swapped from a 165ml/min to a 295ml/min water injection nozzle. Changed the parameters slightly so it sprays at 4psi boost,115 degree intake air temps, and 2500 rpms.

Probably placebo effect, but after replacing the alternator, fusible links, ignitor, etc truck seems ridiculously smooth. Like balance a wine glass on the intake smooth. Lol

Doing the front end, some interesting observations.

I knew I had some bearings that were bad, I haven't been into the front end since I have owned the truck. But everything was looking too good. The rotor looked new the pads looked new, but I soon learned they only half assed the job. :-/

The pads looked almost new and measured - 0.500 - 0.520
0.500 - 0.550

The rotor was 1.270 inches so 32.258mm which is way above spec.

The next thing I noticed which is probably total coincidence is that the outer bearing and race were trashed. Outer was a Timken bearing while the Inner was a Koyo.

Spindle is shot, will be getting ahold of Beno tomorrow and getting 2 of the new updated spindles. Was in the back of my head but expected the bearing to just be bad.

Hmm some surface rust and pitting on the back of the knuckle. Not too bad, it will still clean up and be Ok. Can't believe those damn spindles are $200ea! That has me a little bummed. Lol
