There is a soft c-clip that wraps around the pin that holds it in. If you look close you can see where it separates.

If it ain't broke.. :D

Nice progress west. You're a dedicated man! I wonder if my 45 would make it over there in one piece.

tahoe40 - thanks for that; cleaned mine up. it freed up with some oil so decided not to dismantle.

cult - nice vid on the 45 page. of course she would make it. couple 44s of fuel on the back!

Might need to run into the airfield here and buy some avgas - get some lead back in the old girl.

FYI old son. From a '64 F/T.

thanks for that cult

and thanks mr hdjtachtig for the wiring diagram via email. now have this printed and laminated in a3; need to do this for all my projects! dont spot the 4wd light in that diagram. wondering where it is switched from? there a port on the transfer along the length of the vacuum diaphram pushrod where i suppose it should go? will get a pic. busy; no time for old tojos just lately!

clear as a bell now you mention it mr hdjtachtig. dont know how i missed it! thanks as always

You know what I don't understand west old mate, is that why any self respecting 1961 farmer (or even 1961 city slicker) would buy a FST. Isn't that a bit wild, a bit too attention seeking for young, uncorrupted 1961 Australia? Or is it so you can go roo shooting?

yea i wonder. actually 40 of any description dont exist much close to me; 45 is the norm. however there were certainly a fair number of surplus ww2 jeeps in these parts for a time so guess the soft top idea was not too far removed?

had no time at all lately to play tojo but project rusty is still going ahead. i am committed to this and will see it through. someday rusty will drive out of this shed under her own steam. however the arrival of little sister has changed things a little. little sis is in much better shape than i was led to believe. so i am going to downgrade my efforts on rusty in some areas, like the electrics. headlights and horn will do just fine. many of the nice original bits on rusty shall be 'earmarked' (tho they can stay in place for now) for a future attempt on little sis. things like bows, green starter motor, reflectors, number plate bracket, bezel, bumper, fuelcap, etc etc.

and i think my plan now has reverted to putting this back together with a later stick shift 3 speed. little sis came without her original box and bellhousing. actually i am hoping this may speed things up a bit; but we will see.

so.....do mudders think i need to fit an offcentre rear housing to do this?

Help me get clear on the new plans west. You're running out of time now you've got another project in the wings or you think lil sis should get the original bits or..?

cult - theres always another project in the wings thats nothing new ;-)

i think in time little sis needs the original bits. most things can stay where they are for now; just putting a bit of effort into undoing bolts then putting them back together with a bit of love and lube and learning as i go. if project lil sis gets under way then rusty will be picked over a bit but kept driveable with whatevers free and available at the time.

but the impatient bit of me says stick shift now so rusty can fetch her own parts while i deal with this seized up, rare as, lhd v rhd drive mess. i want to nut this but need patience so dont break anything irreplaceable.

so i guess its a patience tradeoff ;-)

You got a LHD column shift assy.?

well punters its been a few months since ive had a chance to tinker. however declared yesterday sunday and in the mid arvo wandered out to the back bay with a few beers. didnt do much mind you; just cleaned up a bit. back bay ptojects tend to become a dumping ground for crap the moment i look away. sorted all this and pushed rusty outside to sweep up the shed. a mate has given me some 64 seats that have been covered in canvas and perfect for the job at hand. test fit these. arent they delightful!

poked about the wiring a bit. id been having trouble with the donor 64 fusebox. the actual fuse carrier is riveted to the piece where the wiring terminal screws to (2 rivets on the original 61 fusebox). was losing the connection through corrosion in this rivet. had considered a dob of solder on each one. in the end pulled the 'fuse card' from the fusebox carrier and with pin punch, hammer and anvil sorted this good enough for now. reinstalled and tested. had a vague idea to reinstate the card into the orig 61 carrier but the dimensions are different.

also have pedals, handbrake and 4wd lever unseized lubed loved and ready for reinstall.

slow progress; but those sexy seats are motivating!

Looking good west! God damn I gotta get over there..

yea slowly slowly. its good not having much left to pull apart; mostly about putting rusty back together now.

cult - fitting your donor lightswitch is the very next thing now. you're welcome over heer for beers anytime. prob best to fly; then you wont be able to pinch too much of my junk ;-)

quick tinker tonight. finally got the remnants of the darth vader light out; this has been a pita.

mr hdjtachtig - i refer to the pics and info you kindly supplied in post #275. my original 61 light switch (an inoperable seized lump) is the same as yours. my donor switch (courtesy of cult45; i think 64) is basically the same except the M and H terminals are reversed. another early variation. so i playing with this; electrics have never been my strong point.

QUESTION MUDDERS - how is this old style switch supposed to work? first click left is lights? second click left is darth vader light but headlights off? click right is ???

i kinda asked this before in my stablemate thread to no avail.

interested in anyones thoughts on how this is supposed to be configured.
