I'm looking at getting a locker for the rear of my fj55. I have looked at a couple sites trying to find some good prices. The best thing I have found so far is an aussie locker for 239. Does anybody have any suggestions of good sites or a good locker to get. Thanks

Aussie lockers are the way to go! I have one in the front and the rear and love the way they perform. HTH.

Yeah torqmasters is where I saw 239. Its the only place I saw the aussie locker so far. But I had always heard good things about the aussie. Has anyone ever compared them with others like detroit locker or other brands?

I had a Power Trax "No Slip" which was supposed to be a more refined version of the Lockrite. It was completely in spec, but it wouldn't always unlock around a corner and the truck would jerk quite a bit. The worst thing though is that due to it's design, it exagerates any kind of drive train slop.

The aussie is something like $200 cheaper, and it more refined I in my humble opinion. It has less slop, less banging, and less jerking.

+2 for Aussie, so far so good - as far as luchbox variety goes, I think it's the one to get.

You'll here a lot about ARB is the only way to go, that's true - but it comes down to what you do and how much $$ you want to shell out.

I just want the rear locked up lunchbox style and I dont want to pay too much. I'm looking for like best $ to quality ratio.

I've never had an Aussie, but I've had no complaints about my LockRight. I just helped a buddy install one last week. He got it from Central 4WD for $241 including shipping. I think $239 is the best price I've seen for the Aussie.

I have the aussie on my 40 and its a great value. You can feel it on pavement when turning slowly, but its awesome off road. When you fell it jerking you can either put it in nuetral (through the turn)or speed up. Either way usually works.

The aussie is 239 plus shipping from ny to sc and the lock-rite is 241.80 free shipping. Which do you guys think would be better because in the end its only gonna be a couple bucks difference. Seems like the aussie is winning has anyone else had a lock-rite?

They are aweful cose. I decided on the Aussie based on a search on Pirate and people opinions and reviews there. Course thats all subjective. Plus Ige had one and liked it, and that was enough for me.

I've never had a lock right, but from what I understand is that the aussie locker is an "improved" design. I vote for the aussie locker, but I don't think you will be disappointed with either! One reason I went with the aussie is the 200 dollar price tag when it came out. :flipoff2:

on the right track

Go with the Aussie in the rear. I love my lock right rear and it's
hardly noticeable. I hear from trusted sources that the Aussie is
better. We put a power track (improved lock right?) in Alex's
40 and it was very smooth.
Go rear because you are going to want selectability in that front
locker. Turning and backing up etc are easier and you just
might save some poor old birfield's life some day.
I like ARB. It's not the only option. Just like with the lunch box crowd.
That PLUS the rear install is like 1 banana job. :-)

Alright Gundy thanks for the advice. I was hoping you guys were gonna get to hear the pig squeal at that next meeting but I'm already going to mardi gras that weekend so I wont be able to make it. The pig should be running this weekend if all my parts get here like they are supposed to though. So it wont be long.

Other maintenance when installing a locker?

Recommend any other work in the diff when you install a locker? Bearings, seals, etc.??

Thanks,
B

Other Maintenance while you're in there

Replace the rear axle seals while you have the rear axles out. They are at the ends of the axle tube.
