Betty next to the Cave 80.

@RC51 also, tires are 285/70 R17 Cooper S/T Maxx. Best tires ever.

If I have enough time tomorrow, you’ll see another set just like Betty’s on the single cab.

Betty next to the Cave 80.

Thank you for this picture! Two amazing looking car. And I just confirmed to myself to deflare my 80 was a good decision.
But spending a ridicolous amount of money on the new, 2-4cm longer grey body trim pieces.... that is a questionable decision ! :D

The tires came out of storage and are closer to the truck. Al least in the same building now.

1HZ/79 (new) vs 1HDFT/80 (old) power steering pump union bolt. Since I’m running a 79 series line, I will probably use the new 79 series union. Also, because it’s shiny.

Got the new wheels and tires actually mounted on the truck. It only took 3 years in deep storage before I was ready. Yes, I know there’s only two nuts holding things together. Truck life emulates real life, I suppose.

They are Cooper S/T Maxx 285/70 R17 on 17 inch Hilux steelies.

Matt, they should. I’ve owned 3 different sets from @joekatana. It’s a different set, yours are over there on the double cab.

I was just kidding Galen. I do kinda wish I had kept those wheels but they don't work for a flared truck.

I had to cancel the wrenching weekend we had planned here, secondary to an ice storm and power outage, so I made myself feel better by bolting on an outer fender freshly painted and shined up by @Fern1109.

Dang, it looks good.

Soooooo…..

Today I pulled the FT out of the single cab…to sell it.

(record scratch noise)

Yeah.

Why?

Well, for a couple of reasons. Mostly, @doge wanted a FT for his beautiful FJ60. I had an FT. I could replace it with an FTE, for about the same money, and then I would have a lot of synchrony between the two builds.

And also, why not?

SO….with an actually helpful 11 year old, we got the motor out and divorced from the h151.

Go jacks are awesomely useful tools. Thanks to @teleskier for letting me use them out here.

@c2dfj45 told me I’d pull the drivetrain out at least one more time, and he was sure right.

@chapel gate has an FTE on deposit. Let the fun begin! Errr, continue. Or whatever.

Sweet. Those are the rims I was trying to find in 17s. Couldn’t find them and forgot about joekatana…such is life. I’m always on the lookout for them to get rid of my spacers.

A great eBay find arrived today. I’m not sure if this will go on the single cab or the double cab, but it sure wasn’t a bad deal for $200 shipped.

@Blomdala YES!

We also built a few HF1A shifters up from parts.

Wrong build thread. Supposed to be in the double cab thread. DAMMIT.

One for each of my pickup builds, two are for friends. It’s a damn warehouse up in here.

Today was an awesome day.

@coldtaco had a business layover and came out to wrench. @davegonz and @Mr Cimarron came over to wrench and it was dash day.

@coldtaco got the bulk of the dash together. Man, I owe you one.

@Mr Cimarron swapped old dash parts over to the new dash and organized my craptastic piles of parts.

At the end of the day there is a lot more dash than there was 8 hours ago. I need a couple of specific bolts and the correct switch panel for the a/c.

It’s amazing how much dirt accumulates on the ductwork. Even after a good dishwasher set on nuclear strength, black dirt kept coming out of the ducts.

Thanks, guys, for propelling me forwards.
