Just picked up an '89 FJ62. One thing I didn't notice was this piece that appears to be burned/blown through. Thing is, I don't know what it is so I can order a replacement!

Can anyone please help me out?

Howdy! That is a one-way check valve for the AIR system. Once it fails, then it can blow exhaust back towards your AIR pump, which is real bad for the pump. IF you need to maintain the smog stuff, then test the pump. You may be able to find generic replacements for these. It is a pretty common part. John

Where do you guys source your OEM replacement parts from? The local NAPA says that part isn't made anymore, which I'm guessing is bu!!sh!t.

Go to someone other than Napa, I bought a generic one about a year ago for my 62 from a local auto parts store. And yes it is the check valve for the air pump. Find a friendly local auto parts store, they are your friend.

Make sure to check the injection rail as well (Thats the tube the check valve is connected to). My injection rail was rotted out at two of the injectors when I found my rotten check valve. It rots out where it enters the mainfold, yes in a horrible place underneath the intake manifold and its hard to see.

I just had mine replaced with a genuine Toyota one that the dealer ordered in. I've been told that the Toyota one is the way to go, they take longer to rust out Vs. the aftermarket ones.

Go to Rockauto.com. The Standard Motor Parts check valve is about $28 plus shipping. Part #AV11. Standard Motor Parts is a common supplier that many parts stores can deal with don't know if your Napa can. He may be able to cross this number. My injection rail had to come from Toyota.

There somewhat all the same for units made in 79-90's , just a few different shapes , make sure steel thread is the same and the hose needs to be cut and refitted.

Allows air to be pushed one way only and no exhausting back into the system/pump..

That is one of many, many decaying and hard-to-identify things that you get to toss when you upgrade to V-8 power. Ok, that wasn't very helpfull.

Unfortunately I had no choice but to drive it 60 miles when I bought it. Once I got it home to Kodiak by ferry, I did a good old temporary redneck fix with some JB Weld. Looks and sounds like it worked.

I've got one on order, should be here in a few days.
