Got some time on the truck today which was great......kind of unexpected too as we are on a FJ40 kick right now. I wanted to get the front of the motor buttoned up along with the power steering. We had been waiting on a few parts to come in......lower alternator bolt, some PS lines, etc.

Since my 80 series steering gearbox sits way closer to the motor than a 70 series would, the pressure line for a 70 series wouldn't fit. We use this setup on most of our builds... Field Serviceable Toyota V6 Pump Conversion Pressure Hose Kit-HK2019 : Steering Hose and Fittings, Hose Kits | PSC Motorsports - performance steering components, power steering along with a 16mmx1.5 to 6AN(one comes in the kit....can't remember which one....we might buy the 17mm to 6AN).

We use push lock line on the other hoses. Nice and clean. We'll add some clamps on Monday and cross this stuff off the list. Still need a suction pipe for the bottom of the pump....on order from Megazip.

Got that super cool Terrain Tamer alternator installed....belts on. Everything lined up 👍

The 2 aluminum lines are perplexing....they were mounted on the frame when I got it. I assume they were for fuel but they run on the right side of the truck....the fuel pump is on the left side of the motor. Really strange. They will be in the recycling pile on Monday.

They look more like refrigerant tubes. All the fuel tube I have seen on 7* series are steel. Is it something added by the previous assemblers?
 
Size and placement indicate possible ATF cooler lines.

Yeah....that makes a lot of sense. My tech thought the same thing. No idea what trans was being setup with this truck when it was initially built...I saw a pic with a 1HZ in it but can't make out what trans. Maybe a 1HDT with an auto was being considered. Who knows. Weird thing to install at that point of a build. Trans cooler lines would be the least of my worries....
 
After not working on #2 for a long long time, we got back on it today for a little bit. Trying to organize our container and now that most parts are on the #2 truck, we have lots of room in the bed. So out of the container went the fuel tanks and into the bed.

We had been waiting on a few things to finish the power steering...those came in the other day. Got them in and that got checked off the list.

Yesterday we sprayed a FJ40 tunnel with Raptor liner and my new gun for it(has pre-set texture settings....I *think* they call it their Pro gun). Game changer. What a difference. We didn't cut the Raptor and sprayed at it's finest setting....really turned out nice. We had treated the ARB bull bar with our Master Series Mastercoat paint to seal up the bare metal....and hit the areas with the Raptor. Turned out great. Normally I'd powdercoat the whole bull bar when if we modded it but I didn't want to go thru all the work on this thing. The Raptor is perfect. Plus it's all in the inside of the bumper...won't really be seen. More for preventing rust.

Spent some time working on the air cleaner assembly. I have the air box out of 2014 HZJ76 and the lid is a new take-off. Bought all the OEM rubber parts, clamps and pipe-to-pipe connector for an HDJ81 to connect the lid to the turbo. 2 of the air box mounts lined up, bottom didn't. Easy fix since the bottom mount is removable on this air box. One of the spring clamps on the air cleaner base didn't line up in an accessible place so we moved it.

Back brake lines today(let me correct that....brake line....singular....as in one). Note to self.....install brake lines BEFORE motor goes in next time. Not one of my smarter moves trying to do this around a motor. 1.5 days to do one line. And it's not done. Ha.

This is just my working piece...I still will have to duplicate it to create a finished piece. And build another one to run parallel to this for the right front brake. This is the rear line. Front line should be easier. Key word......'should'.

I always put a plug in for this tool in my build threads. This might be the best tool in our shop. I look forward to doing brake lines because of it. It's therapeutic. It's from another planet. It's perfection. If you have to do a brake line job....buy one. One of our buddies came to the shop one night when we were fighting with some kind of line a long time ago and was telling me about this thing. I didn't believe him. He brought it over the next day. At first I was in disbelief. Then sadness set in. All that time spent fighting with the stupid grinder, dies, clamps and BS of those little hand held flare kits. This changed my life. It will change yours. And it's under $200.

Finished up the bracket for the air cleaner housing....clip installed. All good. If it weren't for brake lines, I'd be working on something way more fun!

I have a very similar tool for flaring, your description is spot on! Read and listen to that plug, he's right!

I will probably never forget the day that guy showed me that piece of equipment. I was speechless. It was like somebody turned a light on. I bought my own the next day. He was also the guy that told me about the nickel copper tubing. 25+ years building cars and trucks and a solid 20 in the professional world and in 10 minutes everything I thought I knew about brake lines was turned upside down. Lol. Joy, disbelief, anger, sadness....I ran thru all the emotions.

Buy one and then tell everyone about it.
 
I went cheap on flare tool and it’s at best a 50/50 success rate.

Do you get the metric copper lines and fittings or sae ?

I use 3/16" copper nickel line with 10mm fittings. I like the Inline Tube parts.

We also use one of these. REALLY makes it easy to get the lines straight. It does a great job of straightening them out.

I had one of those, Eastwood brand. I upgraded to this because you can flare on the truck if needed.

That one is slick. We don't tend to flare on the cars very much....usually we are making all new lines. I wish I had something like that a long time ago though...would have been worth it's weight in gold fixing crappy twisted off fittings. I wouldn't mind having a on-the-truck flare tool in my box.

Putting in a proportioning valve, that is when I need to flare on the truck the most.
