LED light swap (lots of pics! dial-up=bad)

Thought I would add a photo of my LED changes in my interior, from a lame cell phone camera. Anyway, in addition to what others have done, I also changed out the bulb in my factory inclinometer, and I have an Alpine stereo with a red face option. The main difference I wanted to show was what this setup looked like with the stock inclinometer.

That's badass. I still want an inclinometer for my 62....

Thanks, most everything else I've done related to my LED conversion is based on what you posted, so thanks. One thing I am working on; I have several VDO gauges (and a Murphy) and am converting them to red .5 w LED as well. Whenever (if ever!) I get that project done, I'll try to get a better resolution photo or two. Great thread, excellent ideas.

Nice! I have the inclinometer mounted, with red bulb already swapped, but haven't wired up power yet...

one day i'll get it done - but that looks sweet!

Glad to help - thanks for everyone's input on this. Became more of an LED upgrade thread than just dash - but very cool ideas and tricks.

What bulb is the glove box light? At first y'all said 74 then a couple post later you referred to a 37 bulb? I know it is a mini but unsure of which to order

Anybody get an electronic turn signal flasher to go with LED turn signal lamps?

I did, again, from our friends at eBay, $20 and change.

eBay Motors: 3 PIN JAPANESE ELECTRONIC LED FLASHER BLINKER FIX JSO (item 250396900812 end time Apr-26-09 00:44:43 PDT)=

While the pins are in the same place, they did not exactly line up (wider than the base) so I created a link with male/female extensions from the flasher to the base, and tucked the flasher next to the steering column. Works like a charm, no fast flasher!

Since we're talking about lights and whatnot, can you guys help me with wiring my inclometer? I've attached some pics and found some info but I want more clarification on what the OEM Inclometer plug looks like. From what I've read the later 60s have the plug and I'd like to utilize it. Here are the instructions I've found so far:

Black/Green(double wire) 12V ground
Green/Green(double wire) Lights...to park light wire in column switch(use your FSM)
Red wire...12V constant power(NOT your cig lighter--it's switched)
Blue wire...Switched 12V

I've attached 3 pics, the back of my clinometer and one of each of the plugs I found behind the clinometer spot in the dash.

Well . . . . scratching my head now, mine did not look that way. I'll look it up shortly and get back to you.

The light is simple, one to the ground and one to the dash lights, I tied into the lead for my radio illumination. (I would be sure to mark the one I chose for my ground (I use a black sharpie) so down the road you know what you used to do what!

The other is a clock set up, and I think you are right, let me check on what is feeding that plug from your loom and I'll let you know.

Ok, sounds good. I would assume that there would be a 4 prong plug, but I didn't see one. If it piggy backs off of another connector, or you find where it should be located in the loom behind the dash, let me know. Thanks a ton!!

One of two things will happen today; I'll find it in one of my manuals, (at the moment, that's not working as easy as I thought) or later this afternoon, I'll pop the trim ring and look at what I have, take a few photos and put it up. Either way, we'll get it done!

Wait, there's supposed to be lights on the INSIDE of the dash instead of using ambient light from the outside to read the gauges at night?:bang: Actually, mine work, but like everything else on the truck, only when it wants to. :meh: I actually like the blue LEDs better, but maybe a little bit dimmer. The red is an interesting thought, but I don't like the clashing with my warning lights. Green, White, or Blue, in my opinion. Nice work though.:grinpimp::hillbilly:

I prefer the red because I dig the cockpit style look to it. That and it won't mess up your night vision when you look at 'em.

Wiring for the Inclinometer

Sorry, by the time I tried to post this last night, had some internet problems and rushing off now but wanted to get this up while I can still understand my notes!

From Inclinometer solid Green and solid Black sharing a contact in - White with a black line out to a ground point.

From inclinometer solid Green and solid Green sharing a contact in - Red with Blue horizontal stripe out (connected to instrument light source located near radio, another source is the light source for the dash lights).

From inclinometer solid Blue - Red with green vertical stripe, blue horizontal stripe (tapped into gray with brown vertical stripe for ignition power) any other ignition source will work, illuminates the clock when the ignition source is on.

From inclinometer solid Red - Red with black vertical stripe to constant power source for clock memory.

If there are other questions, I'll get to them tonight when I return, hope this helps,
Randy

Perfect! Thanks buddy.

Best Leds to get?

So after reading all of this I think I know what I need but want to consult with the gurus.
I have an 81 BJ60.
For the front and side markers I plan to get the WLED-xHP5 in red and amber.
For the front marker lights the 67-x15 LED bulb.
For the festoons I just want a simple snap-in replacement no modifying.
so the 3022-xHP2 for the dome and the 3710-xHP3 for the rear cargo (cool white).
Sound good?? I know I could get more LEDs for the festoons, but this has to be a good upgrade without going for more LEDs?
Has anyone tried the the high power 1157 bulb for brake light?
thanks,
John
