Pretty much any 4X4 would have performed as well or better than the LC did in the Top Gear lite video. My 4th Gen 4R and my friend's CJ did better so there's no real conclusion to be drawn, either which way.

They were nowhere as obnoxious and cringey as most vloggers so plus for them but as noted, because of the preset cameras the jump didn't come out of the blue as hinted. And if anyone believes that the radiator somehow self healed then bless your heart. ;) I've done a decent amount of dune driving all over and their inexperience was obvious even if it was entertaining.

At best they got a cool still picture.

Oh how I miss Top Gear, but if I remember correctly they were not huge fans of the LC.

These guys are surely entertaining but I have so many questions after watching the video. The comments on the video seem to be filtered with no criticism allowed.

I'm still struggling with the "Prado" hate on the 250, but I will admit that my only LC experience is in an 80 series. The 250 has twice the hp/tq as my 91 and tows more. What makes my 80 series a full on land cruiser and this a prado? Just because it COULD be a 200 series but isn't? Frankly I think "nomenclature" is taken a bit too seriously as gospel in the Cruiser world. I'm not against reasonable criticism or differing personal preferences, but arguments about "opinion suppression" or "Toyota talking points" seem to me like fluff that doesn't really have concrete support to back it. Not trying to be abrasive or anything, I've just seen comments like that even levied at Mud members (like @cruiseroutfit ) even when they have actual hands-on experience and we're all looking at videos, pictures, and spec sheets online.

Call me naive, but I trust the reviewers and will give it a chance in person when it's available.

Oh, I thought they had lots of respect for Toyotas, including probably one of their most famous episode when they tried to kill one.

Ok, you're naive LOL 😂

Seriously, even your example was an infomercial made in conjunction with Toyota's marketing department.

Call me cynical but I don't trust infomercials for unbiased information on anything from replacement windows to trucks. At best they can be used to build awareness so the interested can then look deeper.

Jeremy Clarkson personally owned an 80. There's a video of him taking his kids to school and taking the more scenic route to get there. Talking Heads Jam in there too.

Just wrapped an amazing few days in the dirt with the GX550's (and a couple support 460's). TMNA trusted us to take a bunch of community members out for a ride/drive and camping trip north of LA following us the GXperience event at Longo Lexus. These had less than 10 miles on them when we kicked off the adventure. Today we spent an hour blasting the mud off of the under carriage, a proper break-in for a new 4x4 😎

Which example of mine was an infomercial? Frankly, I think the level of assuredness in these threads that everything you hear is a lie is more ignorant than listening to people that have actually seen the vehicle, even if they could possibly have an ulterior motive to say what they say. What I know for a fact is that those on here that are so sure they know how bad the vehicle is seem pretty dang confident for people with absolutely zero first-hand knowledge on the subject.

I think they are just entertaining car reviewers with no real knowledge of the Land Cruiser platforms. All they did was regurgitate Toyota’s talking points on the new Prado. They also proved how cheaply it was made by referring to the interior as cheap, underwhelming engine performance and the way the door sounded when shutting. They never even bring up how it compares the LX600 in their recovery team. In the end they pretty much say just buy the 4R or GX unless you just have to have the Land Cruiser name *cough Prado*!
The cheap door thunk sound pretty much summarizes what this vehicle really is. Long gone are the days of an overbuilt tank. I think a Toyota corolla sounds better than that. But hey, 78k for a first edition and plenty of people will scoop them up because they are being deceived by the marketing department. Toyota will be laughing their way to the bank with all of the excess profit margin on these rigs.

I guess they had to cut the weight somewhere to meet those MPG fleet standards.

You gave only one example but that pony has been properly beaten to oblivion. In my mind commercials hold a unique place below unbiased truth and above an outright lie.

That said, assuredness of greatness with absolutely zero first-hand knowledge posts have and continues to far exceeded any negatives or skepticism.

The power difference? The towing capacity? The nomenclature?

I haven't seen a single "assuredness of greatness" post whatsoever. I've seen "I'm sure it will be capable" and "I'm sure it will fill it's role" but I haven't seen "This will be a great Land Cruiser that dwarfs all those that come before it!" Frankly, I don't think any of the comments I'm replying to are "skepticism", they are cynicism through and through. Skepticism requires a willingness to be wrong and admit it if sufficient evidence is eventually presented, and I think every post I've made has the caveats of my limited experience, my hopes for better trim options, and my willingness to wait until I test drive the vehicle for myself to confirm any suspicions or beliefs. THAT is healthy skepticism, but for some reason the replies think I'm bought in just because I'm optimistic.

Great shot- it looks so different- and better- than the 460 here (still love the 460 forever though). Can't wait to see/hear how the adventures went. 🤙

Do you know if there are any East Coast opportunities to check out the 550 or 250? Everything I see seems to be West Coast only.

Would love to hear more on this! With lots of pictures hopefully! 🤞

We are hoping to do a similar event on the east coast soon. East Coast dealers should start getting the 250 and 550's soon if they haven't already.
