If those are correct - I'm not in love with the design. Looks like a truck they had to configure into an SUV on a budget to me. The design language doesn't work for me. I hope it's just a render and they did a better job in real life. The hood is too long. The windshield is too sloped and roughly 40% of the vehicle length is wasted by that ungainly front design. So the passenger compartment looks like it got smaller despite the longer wheelbase. Overall, to me, it sure looks like a big step back in design. Classic CALTY output. If this is real - I guess the LC250 has more chance of success than I thought it would.

According to that it shares the same 112" wheelbase and length overall as the LC250. This looks almost unusable: (So it must have a 3rd row?)

Maybe I'm the old man now yelling into the void. But it's hard to imagine a corporate officer signing off on going from this:

Eh, looks like a baby sequoia. Makes sense.

Potentially the real differentiator for the LC will be full time 4wd with both center and rear locker. I'd be surprised if the 4Runners with center diff lock also get a rear locker.

Somehow the Sequoia managed to put midsize SUV interior volume in a full size shell. I suppose you're right that they'll fit compact SUV interior size into a midsize with the 4Runner. :)

Hard to guess what they'll do, but that seems likely that the limited 4R won't have a rear locker option. On one hand - sure awd is mostly for highway use and it makes sense to focus on the highway trims. But I still think it is an odd choice to force those two apart. Especially when the new rear locker is just a part bin choice for the same rear housing. It's so easy to offer across the full range.

Power. I'd have happily paid double that for an extra 50hp/200 ftlb on my 4runner.
If toyota had still offered a factory supercharger, I would have paid $4k for it for about the same power increment. But you also get the inverter and other benefits with the hybrid. Problem for me is the cargo space it takes up. That's my biggest hold back. I'd buy a sequoia without it since it already has plenty of power.

My mental hang-up is that hybrid Rav4 is only $800 difference. And the ford powerboost is ~$2k option. Comparatively the $4k seems like a lot.

17” wheels with 285/75R17 on production GX Overtrail. 33.86” from Nittos site if I looked up the correct tire.

I like the sound of this considering my days of lift kits are behind me. I just want something from the factory that I don’t have to do anything to other than possibly swap tires or wheels to whatever suits my mood at the time.

So to review it looks like:

GX550 is the new Land Cruiser.
The 250 is the new 4Runner.
The 6th 4R is basically a Tacoma without the bed.

Something for everyone if one gets past the Orwellian assault on language.
According to the Doug Demuro, the TRD Pro Sequoia is the new Land Cruiser, that's one of the reasons he replaced his 200 with one. Besides the power, he is going to be disappointed. :)

I never thought I'd be that guy in this room but....if you like your 100 or 200 series, maybe hold on to them. I'm at 24 years and almost 400k miles in my 100 series without any major failures or problems to speak of. Toyota's days of building stuff like that for the NA market may be over. Happy to be proven wrong bc I can't drive this rig forever but it's not looking great for us, on paper.

Or snatch up a brand new 5th gen 4Runner while you still can?

I gotta say, they whacked that new 4Runner with the ugly stick. 5th gen looks far superior.

They doubled down on the Fu Manchu mustach from the Tundra. Not sure why that front piece needs to stick out so far. It would look much more clean without that extra bit in the front.

lol, to be fair looks like a very wide angle lens, quite close to that corner so the proportions of everything are stretched and all out of whack.

Even if that’s the case, why add that extra bit at the front to intentionally decrease your approach angle? It looks out of place.

That's definitely one of the less flattering angles. Also those fender flares... 🤢

Why would he be disappointed exactly? It really does seem the sequoia is the best modern option we have on the Toyota side.
