Assuming the $60kish pice for both, the biggest difference when comparing the base (Premium) GX with the LC (LC) is the included option. The LC comes standard with MTS, rear locker, sway bar disconnect, etc. The GX comes with only 4wd.

Look at all the Wrangler Rubicons and Bronco Sas out there, those people prob don’t need the added off-road features of those models/trims. I suspect the LC will sell pretty well; it has that LC name, tons of off-road goodies standard, has 2.4Kw on-board power, good drivetrain power output, and potentially good fuel economy. If Toyota is smart they will offer a “off road”, or however they want to wordsmith it, package with bigger tires to spice up the looks some.
 
To put things in perspective vs global offerings
My GRJ300 with the 4.0 no hybrid no turbo.
Same engine as the 4Runner cost $61K.

I have no fancy options. Steel wheels - no sunroof - no Mts - no crawl control - basic suspension - wired carplay - no rearview camera - manual cloth seats ( nicer material than the one on the 250 )

Triple locked though and has a cool box/third row and rear ac.

I think that is pretty close to what a lot of us want. I do like MTS and crawl control. They do work remarkably well in some situations. But triple locked is better at the extremes in almost all cases I've experienced with a double (triple equivalent) locked 4R with crawl/mts available. If I had a triple locked model I wouldn't have any heartburn over not having MTS. I'm not sure how to say this nicely - but I'm not sure a lot of american buyers are smart enough/experienced/willing to learn (?) to figure out how to use lockers and would be better off with an automatic system.

I'm surprised it doesn't have ATRAC or MTS only because there's no marginal cost for the software. I figured they'd include in all LC300's as a standard option.

For the USA market - If Toyota built a similar trim with the turbo4 non-hybrid for emissions compliance and added a rear camera (USA requires on all vehicles), I think it would be pretty popular. I tend to think the USA market will prefer the LC250 body styling. I like both, but tend to lean toward the 250 styling myself, although I'd be happy to have either one. I think the extra interior width of the 300 would be nice. My only other wish is for softex material. It's just easier to clean vs cloth with kids and dogs.

The domestic brands seem to be willing to build something like that. It's mostly just Toyota that doesn't offer it. Closest we can get is a base model 4R for $40k and add a pair of e-lockers for maybe another $2500. At $43k, it's not a bad value. But it's also not quite a Land Cruiser either. I guess a base model Tundra Crewmax 4x4 is $46k and add lockers and you'd be at about $50k fully locked. Not a terrible value TBH. But I don't see many people lining up to buy them.

30ish to 50 ish passing seems pretty quick with at least 2 people on board….I’m really curious how this detuned version compares against the LX. I’m guessing there is only a difference on paper.
We also don't know how light this thing is.
The LX actually feels slower and less peppy than a lc300 especially the more basic ones with the same engine due to weight difference.

In that case you're really not missing much. I thought it would be odd not to include it since it's standard on almost every model now.

Since they both have the same peak torque, the hp difference is probably all at the top of the rpm range from maybe 5k rpms and beyond. GX is probably a little quicker than the LX if it's lighter. I'm not sure if we know yet what axle ratios they have and if they're the same or different. My guess is that the LC250 with the hybrid will be the quickest of the bunch from 0-60. It should have more power (while supplies last) through the first half of the rpm range. It hits 465 tq by 1700 rpms while the turbo v6 reaches 479 at 2400 rpms. So, the power out put seems to favor the LC250 up to around 2k rpms and the Turbo 6 beyond that. Might end up a wash in the 0-60 race.

Likewise. I'm curious what style steel rims the base model will get. I want to get the same style for my winter tires, haha.
 
The new GD76 has very LC55 feel to the front clip. Not sure if it's intentional, but it reminds me a lot of the 55. TBH I like the outgoing version styling better. But I'm sure it'll be nice to get the big power and efficiency upgrades.
 


Interesting look at the LC. I like the NEO yoke and think it’s cool Toyota is looking at something like that. Also noticed I don’t see the stupid volume knob up on the left of the screen, though I don’t remember if that was only on the 1958 or not.
