Damn, and I thought my wife’s $500 lease was absurd… I remember not wanting to pay 300/mth for my car loan just 10 years ago. Now I don’t think you can find a car cheap enough for that payment! Guess I’ll stop complaining about gas prices in my 80, cause it’s still better than 1300/mth 😅

It’s amazing to me how much people will spend to make them look wealthy…

Those who do would much more likely do so with a BMW, Benz, Rover, etc. than a Lexus that just doesn't have the same Hey Look At Me, I'm Rich status appeal. It's base is more those who have some bucks AND appreciate quality.

In other words, the opposite of Range Rover owners. Maybe the GX will blur those lines.

wow 55%
what do you think a 75K to 80K GX550 would lease for per month ??
Boggles me that someone would want to lease a Lexus GX 460. IMO, it’s not that great (very out dated) especially for the money. My understanding is the big draw of the GX 460 (lexus/toyota in general) is reliability…but if you’re only keeping it for 3-ish years on a lease, kinda defeats the purpose. Idk that’s just my opinion though.

And that’s one of the reasons you see such high lease vs own percentages on LR, RR, Audi, BMW etc. Nobody wants to be on the hook for the depreciation or maintenance once they are more than 3-4 years old and out of warranty.

I lease at least one of our vehicles because if I don’t, every single dollar I don‘t pay on a lease, I pay in income tax. I’d far rather have something for my $1,000 per month than give it to the idiots in the nations capitol. They get enough from me as it is.

I don't lease or take out car loans but do own a F250 only because the other option was sending most of that money to the IRS. Beyond crazy but them be the rules.

Talking to Dan last week he figured the 250 was basically the same size as his 80.
I hope that’s correct, but from what I’ve seen the width is about the same as the 200. I work downtown and park in a narrow parking garage, so width is one of the main issues I have with the 200.

I wonder how many people have actually run their one spreadsheets to look at the ten year cost of ownership, purchase vs lease, for one, two or three cars/trucks over that time frame, I highly doubt very many.

Thoughts to ponder:
1) A few truly understand it.
2) Many parrot the sales persons claims.
3) A few understand the savings of paying for an affordable brand/model at an affordable payment, for a reasonable number of payment months.
4) Or, pay cash and keep your car/truck for more than 2-3 years.
5) So what if I pay the government 20%, or more tax, that still leaves you with 80%, or less, and an extra 7 years to invest the difference.

If you have more disposable income than you know what to do with, and your financial plans for family, children, college, housing and retirement are fully funded and on track, more power to you.

But, if you must keep up with the Joneses and maintain the illusion of success, do what you do, you have no worries, Walmart will still be hiring greeters when you are 75.

Your Bucks Your Truck should be the prevailing viewpoint unless you are also involved with earning them bucks.

Anyone buying any vehicle as an investment is a nitwit but has every right to be one. But kudos or condolences for only being in a 20% tax bracket. :p

You don't buy a vehicle for an investment, but the money you don't spend on a vehicle can leave cash left over for investments or other life essentials.

You just don't understand tax planning, its the equivalent tax rate, after deductions, that matter. ;)

Exactly. (Although certain vintage vehicles do appreciate steadily, and I make my living from a segment of that). I’m in a 47% bracket. Of every dollar I earn after Q1, only $0.53 comes to me if I don’t have expenses to write off. Even with extensive write offs, I still wrote a low/mid 5 figure cheque for my share of fueling the juggernaut last tax season.

I guess I could set fire to a pile of money in the back yard and call it “heating costs”, but I’d prefer a nice TLC to drive!

And you don’t know the tax laws where everyone else lives. I’m sure your point is valid FOR YOU, but not necessarily for others.

I doubt a measuring tape was in hand, but the man knows his Cruisers better than 99% of us, and he’s the only one I’ve talked to that has seen the 250 in the same room as everything from 40s to 100s. Let’s hope it’ the right size for you. My choice is between a T4R and the 250 when I replace my Tundra in late spring. I’ll be happy with either, but I’m hoping the 250 is closer to my Gen 1 Sequoia in size.

LOL I do take some pride in not understanding much of my 65+ page tax return but according to our recent IRS auditors, my accountant has been doing a very good job. A 20% effective Fed tax rate can only mean one thing and by comparison I would still rather complain about paying much more.

I do ok but obviously not ok enough to worry that much about what others make and how they spend their money. That said, I still think it’s stupid for many to buy these vehicles considering how they use them but that’s also not my monkey, not my circus :)

The suspension travel looks pretty similar between the eKDSS and non-KDSS models. Total flex isn't that only goal. KDSS was only about a 10% improvement previously - so about 1 inch. That would be hard to see in the non-similar photos. Hard to measure the stability and dynamic body motion. We don't have a good standard test for that, but know that it's important. I like to make fun of the Tacoma's fancy seats, but maybe they're actually useful. (I kinda doubt it - but ???).

I'd love to see something like a data collection app that measures all the various motions and forces from low to high frequency motion over a standardized course to compare different vehicle performance on rough terrain. Would be a great test to have for a suspension shop too. Then you could actually provide objective comparison of different suspension options. I've tried to do it with a motion sensor tracking app, but it didn't work as well as I had hoped because the results had so much noise in the output and lack of ability to separate the various frequency bands. I'm confident an current cell phone would be capable of it with the right app though.

Would be nice if Toyota would put its effort into putting vehicles in driveways instead of parading around a few samples to mall parking lots.
