Toyota would never have allowed it to be registered. All prototypes are either stored by Toyota, put in museums, or destroyed.

How did that ever get registered? Habibi deal?

Back in the mid 1970s some were none of the above. JTO back east has a FJ40 full time 4WD proto type. Believe there is at least one more that made it to the US.

Lexus definitely knows its core demographic for the GX. I suspect it's pretty different group from the LC demo. Probably a lot like it is right now. Plus side is there will probably be deals on GX550 lease returns starting in about 3 years.

55% of Lexus cars are leased vs 14% of Toyotas.

wow 55%
what do you think a 75K to 80K GX550 would lease for per month ??

If the lease numbers are correct then it’s probably by higher net worth people for tax or budgeting reasons instead of what they can afford. And the non-lease Toyota buyers do car loans.

Believe it or not - that's on the low end. Most luxury brands are pretty heavily skewed toward leases. BMW, Land Rover, Audi - those brands are 65-75% leased. It's not a huge surprise that those also don't show up on the list of brands most frequently bought by high wealth/income buyers. It's an interesting paradox.

An LX600 lease is about $1700/mo. I'd guess a GX is probably about $1500/mo.

I've never leased a car and only financed one once so I don't know a lot about the numbers/process other than the basics. For me - taking all the pain up front is a bit of a commitment device for me to keep me from wasting a lot of money on cars I don't need. The result is that I tend to keep my junk a long time. Except fords. I've owned two and didn't keep either one very long. Last one was only 10 months.

I think leases in some states only pay sales tax on the rental value not the car's value. If you're only keeping for 2-3 years and it's worth 50% of the value on the back end you save a few thousand dollars in sales tax in those states. So, that might be worth it. If I were choosing between financing and leasing - I'd take the lowest cost option. The other consideration is that you often can't finance the sales tax and a lot of luxury car buyers can't afford to pay it up front, so they lease instead where the sales tax is wrapped into the payment.

I was thinking in the $1300 mo range but you might be right interest rates depending Q12024

I just searched for the best advertised leases on an LX600 nationwide. The cheapest are about $1600/mo for a F-Sport trim and $2,600/mo for a Luxury trim.

fsport is $100K ish right.. so overtrail+ / luxury + at $75K to $85K might be in the $1300 range.

Yeah. I think so. I'm not sure you can actually buy a base model LX600. I think Premium Trim is the lowest trim Toyota is actually building as best I can tell. Searching all new inventory nation wide for me doesn't come up with even a single LX600 base trim. So, $104k minimum.
