An often seen sentiment on these boards is how Toyota should offer a stripper Land Cruiser in the states. Something in the form of a 70-series. I have my doubts as to how successful that might be. Perhaps a stripper 200-series at 10k less?

Here's a Australian comparo of the of the 79-series vs 200-series.

Cool. I have the 200 but have recently thought about getting a hzj73 for off road.

Coming from someone who has tested both is a hard choice when Maltec is involved. No tow behind camper required:flipoff2:

So go out on a limb and pick one! :hillbilly:

PS. What's the price of each as seen?

Such a tease. Eagerly awaiting a full review.

Maltec trucks run ~140K-195K all are on of kind custom built to suit customer needs. The line of new builds for US owners has started. I predict as more experience Maltec it will soon become the most in demand real expedition truck available in the USA. When you take your wife camping in a Maltec 200 series and says you should buy one (when you cant afford it) you know its going to be a home run very soon.

^I thought the same. Comparing a stripper commercial pickup to a lux SUV.

I bet Kurt @cruiseroutfit could weight in on this. He's driven the kitted out 70's around the world, raced 200's and has plenty of time in them outside of that.

I drive a stripped down LC 200. It's known as the GX-R. They sell something similar in SA. The VX is about 1.2 million Rand ($85k-$90k) and the GX is about 800,000 Rand ($55k-$60k). Same engine, but a bit more simple inside. I think a stripped down 200 might do well. Especially if it was $25k-$30k cheaper.

I'll collect my thoughts when I get a minute. Funny many of those that participated in Expeditions7 are now 200 Series owners and have commented that IF we were to duplicate the trip, a 200 would be a fantastic way to do it.

Maltec had their crazy 200 outside the opening night of LCDC. It was definitely nice...but $185,000 is pretty nuts.

If your budget is in that range...have a ball! I’ll watch. :)

I thought it was a bit cramped and I am happy with my Kimberley Karavan and 200. BUT back to the thread

Cool video. If they sold those here I would likely have one of each. The two vehicles are really different so not exactly an apples to apples comparison. Like comparing a basic Tacoma 2 door to a 200 series from a cost and feature viewpoint. I do like the 70 series in that video and would get one if they sold it here, but would still have my 200.

when I spent some time in Alice Springs I liked to go to the Toyota dealer and look at all the 70 series. Some you could build the way you wanted and had the cab on the frame and you then optioned the rest. The others were completed
