I figured I would start a build thread in IH8mud. I've never done a proyect here before.
I write from Concepcion, Chile. Maybe is far away from here.

First, this started backwards, we look for and bought many good parts. Then, we needed something to put them. So was born the UZJ40, with a 81 FJ40, no modifications.

The project name says a lot. Here´s a pics of the future UZJ40.
My English is not so good, but I think it works.

Cool! Any more pics?

Thanks!. We have a lot of parts in the garage for this project. It wasn't easy, but we found them.

The idea is to get the best off road performance and dependable, on a street legal vehicle. Reliable as a Land Cruiser.

- Toyota 1UZ-FE 4.0 V8 (2gen, Soarer).
- Toyota R151F with split case (19 splines) from australian HJ78. 5 speed manual.
- Champion radiators 4 rows, FJ40.
- UZ to R151 bellhousing adapter, KZ Thailand or Bullet Cars Australia.
- Autometer gauges.
- ... and the most nice and heavy part, very hard to find for us. C303 Volvo portal axles.!

Here´s a some pics.

Great choice of engine and trans and axles. Can you chip and cam the Soarer motor to be more off-raod friendly?

Stock 1UZ manual swap into SWB feels a gorgeous!. Very quicly throtle response, lightweight, and with low gearing of the Volvo portals, to have a nice crawler ratio.

I before built a 1rd and 3st gen 4runner with 1UZ manual. And feels really great, much more in the 1st gen, he is more light.

I think the 1UZ is a very good engine for a short wheel base and lightweight vehicle, always with manual transmission. Feels and sound like a racing car.

Hi All:

Fantasma-4X4, that FJ40 looks to be in pretty good, original condition. But I have to say your parts list is very inspired! :D

Am looking forward to seeing how this project goes!

Good luck!

Alan

He was abandoned for only 6-8 months. Looks pretty good, original condition, and everything in working condition.

Maybe the next post pics is not for purist. But the part list is very inspired, as you said.

Thanks!

Edgardo

First go to the local car wash. After, take out the top, rear doors and many other things.

You have a lift at your local car wash?! Unbelievable! They'd never let that happen here. People would drop cars on themselves and sue the owner!

Cool plans! Looking forward to the build!

What a sweet build-plan. That's a long drivetrain for a 40, how long do you expect the wheelbase to be?

I don´t know. I think I should move one inch back the rear axle, and about 3-4 inch the front axle, to center the total weight.

TSL 38x12.5 /16" .Tall, narrow, lightweight, aggressive and very comfortable.

The next pics are of the rear wheel wells. This is just beginning.

Nice!
And the second time I see the R151f paired to the Volvo axles.
First time I saw it was when I did it :-)
I have A 1KZ-t and R151f with split case in a Volvo TGB1314 (the 6X6 version of the C303)
