I used the grey foam that some people use for shipping parts.. I have been collecting it to use for upholstery and other projects. It worked great.

I would not do the spray foam, it would be a bitch to clean up or if you ever wanted to remove it. Just go to home depot, find the right size weatherstripping and you are good to go for only a few bucks. It has adhesive on one side and does not seem like it will break down like the toyota foam does.

Mike and 33tab, thanks for your help! Did you have to use glue or any adhesive to help keep you foam in place?

I didn't, the foam weatherstrip comes with adhesive on one side. I just kind of placed it the same way as the original and between the adhesive and the foam compressed into position, it stays put just fine.

Thanks, Ben. I haven't taken the radiator out yet, so how thick of weather stripping should I get? I'd guess about 8 - 10 feet of it? Thanks for the tip on the spray foam, too!

The foam comes in a roll of 10 to 15 feet, IIRC. I just bought the size that was closest to the original dimensions, I think it was just a tad bit thicker. I got the mid range quality, as it looked like it would do a good job in our application.

FWIW, I didn't use any foam when I put in the Koyo, and I never saw coolant temps over 195 in the San Joaquin Valley summer.

I didn't need to. The stuff I used comes in sheets that are about 1-1.5" thick. I have no idea where you would buy it, I got it from work it had been used to pack parts. I cut it in to strips that were thick enough to hold the self in to place.

Well, I picked up the radiator today. It looks good. Same box as OP got. The invoice said part# 1917 (as in Koyo part #) but the box had the 2517 CSF part #. But I also stopped by Lowes and picked up some weather stripping. I still hadn't pulled the radiator out to look at original size, but guessed at what I thought I saw in previous eyeballing. Got 1 roll of 3/8" thick x 1/2" wide x 10' and 1 roll of 3/8" thick x 1 1/4" wide x 10' sponge rubber with adhesive both rolls. It'll be a couple weeks before I can get to it. Got to order the Amsoil ATF and busy with other things, but will post some pix for those thinking about going the CSF route.

Radiator is in. Sweet!

Noticed a change already in the temp gauge - it's running cooler. Still working out the air bubbles (nose uphill helps). Out of curiosity I opened up the original radiator:

My rig has 238K on it and I've kept good records on the maintenance. When I got it the mileage was 129K. There was a period when I didn't change the coolant regular :o, about 6 years. Who knows how often it was changed before I had it. Moral: Change & flush regular, every 2 yrs at most.

You probably wont get one and my radiator has been doing great up $h!t Creek. Temps have yet to go over 200° up big grades or off-roading in warm temps so far this winter. We will see next time out once Summer is upon us.

Mark, glad you reported back! (I had to go back and see what you meant "$h!t Creek ) I might be doing a road trip to Tucson, AZ and back. I haven't had the opportunity yet for trips of any kind, so, I'm anxious to see how it performs with the CSF. Keep the reports coming and I'll do the same. The forum needs the feedback and I'm sure others that haven't chosen yet will want to know.:hillbilly:
