Cruiser Outfitters without a doubt. I’ve had their front and rear bumpers and love them. Their rear bumper is very well thought out and looks great.

I'm in the same boat actually. I have a '94 HZJ73. Are the bumpers you referred to different from the ARB Bull Bar? I'd like to go lower profile than ARB if possible. Can you post pics? Also sliders?

Yes the front and rear bumpers are what I’d consider low profile compared to Dobinson or ARB. They’re also not as “dated” looking at those other bumpers. The rear bumper swing outs are attached to the rear doors so it’s 1 motion to open a rear door instead of opening the swing out then the door.

While I agree the ARB are considered dated, so are our rigs  that said...

the rear I would absolutely get cruiser outfitters bumper. Killer design!

one option to think about the front is what do you want the bumper to do? Cruiser outfitter style front bumpers are sweet looking, but won’t do much if you smack a deer or something similar. I’ve hit a deer in an 80 series with my ARB at 75mph and zero damage to the rig/bumper.

My rear bumper is homemade and I plan the make the tire carrier setup like cruiser outfitters. Seing open with the door.

I’ve had nothing but great service with cruiser outfitters so not sure what happened, but by far all I’ve heard is good things from them. We are talking about parts from rigs never sold in the US, so sometimes their might be an issue.

I recently had a little work done on this and unfortunately my shop had a very disappointing experience with Cruiser Outfitters. Lots of mixed messages about availability of a part they said they had in stock, slow response and ultimately unable to pull through with what I needed (and I had to order a part from France) because of miscommunication on THEIR end. I'm not trying to trash them. Maybe this was a rare occurrence. I'm just reporting what my shop guy experienced trying to order a part from them. I anticipate reaching out to them about the bumpers since you suggest they have a good option. But I'm just curious if this was just a rare hiccup or if others have had less than positive experience with CO.

What part was it? Did you try talking to @cruiseroutfit yourself? I have never had anything but stellar communication and response from them. I have all sorts of experience ordering parts of all types from them. Some were on backorder, most are in stock and some get ordered when purchased. Never an issue.

When it comes time to do bumpers for my BJ73 I'll be going with the CO rear for sure.

I'm digging that CO rear bumper too. I'm still a little confused how that's setup though. I get the idea of a single swing-out action for bumper and door. But does this require welding the rear door sections together and eliminating hinges on one side? Or are the doors bolted to brackets on the bumper or the tire/gas carriers? Also, are you able to put the FRP back on for colder weather? I'm in Vermont, so I have a scant 3-4 months of open top driving opportunity ;). As for the front bumper, I can appreciate the robust factor of the ARB. I have the ARB setup on an 80 Series as well. I haven't hit a deer (yet) but I've smacked a tree pretty good negotiating a tough section of trail (not very well) and I can't even tell where it hit. But with my 73, I don't see driving 70mph very often if ever and I like the stripped down look of the standard bumper. But I need something stronger than stock and I'm looking for something that will accommodate the Warn 8274.

Nice rigs gang! Love the 73!

The doors have a plate to bolt on that then connects to the swing outs with a pivoting heim like link. You can kind of see it throughout this thread: Updated rear bumper pics (was Project LXXIV). It should have no issue with or without the FRP top as it only bolts to the bottom section of the door.

I'm torn of the front bumper too, but I love the classic look of the ARB, so I imagine I'll likely end up with that.

We have a Coastal Offroad rear bumper to weld up on the 73 once we get done with the Troopy and 79. I think their stuff is really clean looking. Easy to do business with, nice to be able to save some money if you can weld it yourself and the shipping is cheap too. I don't really want a tire carrier or Jerry can carrier on the bumper for the 73 so this fits the bill perfectly. They do have options for that stuff if you want to add it.

I'm very sorry to hear your shop had an issue with our customer service @ Cruiser Outfitters. Can you PM me your name (or the shops name) and any applicable invoice numbers and I would absolutely love to look into it. As I don't know the situation at hand, we have been dealing with absolutely brutal air freight and customs issues on many of our import parts, shipments months behind at this point and vendors that have closed. Again I don't want to say this is the case or event associated but we are not out of the woods with the shipping issues and stock running behind.

...As for experiences with CO, like I said I'm not looking to bad mouth them. I had a local shop doing work and we decided we needed to replace the gas tank. They called CO (on my recommendation) and were told basically ("yeah no problem, we have a tank in stock"). Then a couple weeks elapsed with no communication, then some back and forth, some uncertainty if the tank "really" was available, then ultimately determination it wasn't and would need to be ordered, etc, etc. I ended up ordering a tank on my own. I fully intend to go to them directly for future parts/questions I still have for more mods. So it's good to hear that was maybe just a blip.

Nice rigs gang! Love the 73!

Gas tank eh? For what vehicle? We stock and always have stocked the tanks for the 4x Series but never have stocked any tanks for the 7x Series nor would we normally take a special order for a 7x Series tank so if it's for your HZJ73 I would absolutely love to here the name of the shop that was ordering it and look up the invoice myself. I do 100% of the Japan & Australia special orders personally and this is the first I've heard of someone looking for a 7x tank. We have all of the 4x tanks we stock on the shelf with the exception of the aftermarket 1/79+ tank which the manufacture has on indefinite back-order as of the last time I looked.

I shot you a PM, would love to get to the bottom of this and make sure we correct any/all issues on our end!

Yes, the carriers are supported by the bumper and pivot on the bumper but pull open and closed with the door

Well, we absolutely stock the ARB 70 Series front bumpers too so not an issue with the decision on our end :D

Hey all, I have to own up to mistake I made on my end of things. I implied a negative experience with Cruiser Outfitters earlier and I was completely mistaken in doing so! It was an innocent mistake and the issue I (and my local shop) experienced was accurate. However, the vendor my shop attempted to work with was some other east cost shop completely unaffiliated with Cruiser Outfitters. As I said before, I wasn't looking to trash anyone anyway, but this was embarrassing and I have no complaints with Cruiser Outfitters whatsoever. So please just ignore that bit of confusion I caused. Keep on rollin!

Phew!!! I'm glad to hear it wasn't on our end but I'm still sorry you ran into a snag on your parts. I know for a fact we don't hit home-runs on ever order or with every customer but I do know we are always trying to refine and improve for our customers. Even though this wasn't in fact related to us... I'm going to make sure we double down with the back-orders we do have right now and make sure our customers don't feel left out of the communications. Thanks for the update and zero hard feelings at all.

While I really dig the look of the low profile bumpers shown I'm leaning toward the ARB due to the added protection it may afford my 70 in any minor accidents.
