I used 2 different heat shield products...the inferno shield from these guys was used in the fender(installed very, very close to the downpipes):

Exhaust Wrap, Heat Shields, High Temp Insulation | Heatshield Products

And this style one from Vibrant(used as a "U" and installed between the frame/body and rocker where the cat/exhaust runs down the passenger side of the truck)....:

Any pics of this stuff installed or is it somewhere in the thread and I missed it? Is it exposed to the elements and water/dirt under the truck? Trying to visualize it.

If I recall correctly, the shielding was something that we installed AFTER we built the truck......probably trying to manage heat better...might not have snapped pics when we did it. Or I was unimpressed with the work and didn't want to document it with pics.

My headers kind of wrapped down the along the passenger side of the firewall....I recall building a lot of stainless heat shielding for that area. We ran headers on this truck....so we had a lot packed into that part of the truck with the collectors, flex joints, 2-1 merge collector, etc....

This is stuff is what we see on the OEMs....this worked great.

Next build will get a lot of this stuff on it.

Those pics are terrible the more I look at them......huge kink in the frame from where it got t-boned, the heat shield looks like ass and the welds on the exhaust are pathetic.

Can't believe we didn't try to massage that kink in the frame a little bit. The frame was blasted to bare metal. Would have been easy.

I'll just have to build another truck and make it better I suppose.....

Figured maybe somebody would get a kick out of seeing this MB 4x4 Squared next to a 79 in what I would believe would be common site somewhere in the Gulf region but not so common in the US. Seriously bad ass truck. The MB is cool too. Ha.

The 79 is much more common here than the G. It seems as if most of the ‘exotic’ car showrooms have 2-3 for sale here, plus I saw a fleet of the Maybach safari G’s a couple of weeks ago for sale, a measily $1.5m each.

I’d much rather have a 79 Series. A friend has a 6x6 in Kuwait and he tested the 4x4 Squared when they were first launched. Didn’t like it. Has awful tracking and doesn’t ride bumps very well. Has a tendency to buck, bounce and yaw on undulating roads.

We brought in these wheels for a customer's FJ40 build....thought I'd have some fun with them on the 79. They're 16x8" aluminum wheels that look like steel wheels....complete with a cool hubcap. 33x11.50 tire.....kind of wide for my truck.

Can't decide what I think......kind of like them but I kind of don't. I dream about the grey steel wheels I have so it's hard for me to like anything else. Definitely different looking though.

Bet they would look better than a 75 series.....a little more old school.

My grey ones go back on tomorrow.....with some 255/85/16 Cooper Discoverer ST tires this time around....

Those are really cool. Always have liked that look.

We're going to pop these fancy hubcap wheels on the LV next....they'll look really slick on it I think.

I had a similar set of 4runner aluminum wheels at one point on the truck. They didn't do it for me. That tray on the grey truck does however.....

With our upcoming 79 build....we might do something a little more non-traditional. Maybe something like this

I was never a fan of the tray backs however as time goes they are starting to grow on me. They are certainly more versatile than the factory beds.
