Let’s see.

The day I wired up the radio was 6 days into sitting in hospice watching my father in law die. I may have been drinking too much that night and not wire in a fuse....

This lead to the wire chafing, grounding out, and a small electrical fire, melting the floor mats, and filling the cab with smoke on the way to the SSS in Arkansas. Almost became the FryingPig instead of the FlyingPig. It was exciting.

Glad u got the fire out in time, electric fires are no joke

To all of the haters’ joy, I had more electrical issues on day two. After hours of poking, prodding, blowing fuses, blowing more fuses, hot wiring, we bypassed something in the ignition that is grounding out. The ECU is hot wired right now essentially. Oh boy did the leaf spring 2Fers love that I was having issues. It is something in the 1973 wiring, not something I did, which makes me happy.

Once it was fixed, drove another 500 miles home at 80mph, getting 15+ mpgs, on 35”s, with just a thumb and forefinger on the steering wheel. Needs a little work, but overall a win

So, the Saturday I made the bad radio wiring decision, father in law passed that Sunday, the Monday I go to rebuild the front end and clear my mind, but it’s jacked up. Had to leave that Thursday to make the ride.

the housing is just a little tiny bent from the wreck when I got it. The passenger side stub shaft is preloaded you the rear of the spindle. This is causing the hub to not lock, or to stay locked when locked, and wear out the ring inside of it. I took a stock drive flange to the SSS and threw it on when 4WD was needed, and pulled it off on the way home.

I don’t know his Mud name, but Alfredo hooked me up and brought another front end to SSS and it’ll be swapped out soon. It made it back to AL and is patiently waiting on the Tundra bed

yessir. I shut if off immideatly (which didnt matter really) has a fire extinguisher in the cab, and my son dove for the ditch ASAP. I had visions of it burning to the ground in front of me for sure.

too many hours sitting at hospice that week and too many beers during install almost made the truck a pile of scrap :(

But I did drive it to AR and back, and won $100 from the rock midget who said it would take me years to build it. That’s all that matters :p

Nice build.. I am impressed at the quality of work and also that you take time for family too!

I sure hope I father better than I fab! Ha! It all works out. Youngest had a great time on the ride and we have 5 more trips planned already

Had a great time with the welded diff, trailered, mini truck guys yesterday. 80 miles at 80mph each way, and some pretty solid trails too. 80 suspension works great. No issues with my rig.

was supposed to an “overland” trip, but it all worked out

It would be cool if there was an under hood compressor with a clutch that wasn't as big as the york for a belt driven solution. The cordless options have come a long way.
You wheeled a nicer rig than I would have in those tracks!
