So does this mean you will be selling some springs

maybe after a couple christmas dinners you can balance that lift out.
 Looking at all these cookies - I might be able to even it out before Christmas dinner.

still as bad ass rig IMO no doubt
Thanks mang!

How about some center hub to wheel well measurements to rid out the difference in peoples tyre sizes :)

Curious on the the ride with the 4" setup compared to the J setup as well :)
4" King spring center of the hub to the bottom of the wheel well (no flares)
Driver side front - 27"
Passenger side front - 26.5"
Driver side rear - 25"
Passenger side rear - 24.5"
My first impression of the new springs was favorable. I'd say it was an improvement. I've wheeled on them already - the flex is better all around and my front axle actually flexed. With my J's I could get about 3 inches of travel up front, now I get about 6". I'm currently running a little lite (no front bumper and no storage box in the rear) and the ride isn't nearly as stiff and doesn't "hop" down a rough road like my J's did just before replacing them.
I'm curious as to how the new springs will handle my new bumper and box installed.

Mike - How does the ride compare with the King's vs. OME?
One passenger said it rides like a Tahoe - I didn't know if I should say thanks or ask him to get out. I said thanks.

X3 on that question, from a guy with OME J's currently
I like the ride - I didn't like spending the money on new springs to "find out". My gamble paid off and I'm happy with the purchase.

Yup - I'm waiting to hear back from a friend - he wants them but has to get past the CFO first. We all know what that is like....:crybaby:

Preparing for Al's liner

I've made the plunge! I decided it was time to line the truck. I was torn between 3 colors (653) sorry no pic, (6v2) http://www.toyotareference.com/colors/landcruiser/toyota_landcruiser_08_6V2_01.jpg?random=1327958229 and (6v7) http://www.toyotareference.com/colors/fjcruiser/toyota_fjcruiser_07_6V7_01.jpg?random=1327958288. I finally made my mind up with 653 and found that no paint shops can find that code for my tint. They quoted me a custom tint at $140 per gallon. That seemed to be a bit steep so I switched my search to the newer colors, I'm leaning towards 6v7.
Last week I spent my free time stripping my truck of all its armor, lights, moldings etc, then pounding the dents out. Saturday and Sunday I spent sanding and bondo'n. This is the first time I've ever attempted anything like this, so naturally I asked the help of a friend that's done this.. ughem... twice. Thanks to my good buddy Derrick for the help and tips, he did the bondo work. I still have some more bondo to do, but figured I'd post the progress.
The first 2 pictures are the truck stripped. Yes, I removed the Land Cruiser and sombrero from the rear. The last is of it sanded and bondo'd.

I finally got the last piece of the puzzle. Finding old paint tones is harder than I thought. My original plan was to bedline the truck in "Olive" (653). But after speaking with a few paint shops, I decided on Toyota's "Army Green" (6v7).:bounce:There seemed to be a discrepancy with regards to how much tint to use per gallon. The boys at Sherman Williams quoted me a mix of almost 1 to 1 ratio. Since these guys are in the business of selling paint - I figured to go to a different source. I spoke with a guy from 4wheel parts (local Al's dealer) and he said he wasn't sure on how much tint per gallon. So he called his Al's rep. He promptly called me back with the answer. Al's kit comes with a 4 ounce black tint. He said to be safe, use 8 ounces per gallon of Al's, per the AL's rep. He added that I should get 4 gallons of Al's just to be safe, but could return the unused.

I've broken down the cost so people can get an idea what they are getting into.

All prep gear - I spent just under $150 at home depot on the following:
1 gallon of bondo
.31 mil plastic 9' x 400'
3 rolls of 1.5" painters tape
2 packs of sanding discs
100 pack of latex gloves
bondo knives (6", 4" and 3")

I had to pick up some misc items for the bondo work (most people wont have to get this):
25' roll of 1.5" metal strapping - $25
sheet metal screws - $6

4 gallons of AL's for $435 -no spray gun, I already had it.
32 oz of Toyota (6v7) with no binder - 106

1.5 lbs of carne asada with fixings - $25
36 pack of coors light - $16

So far I'm into it for $763 for a full "paint" job. I was quoted 3 times that by the local Linex guys. A local shop quoted 1300 but that was with the truck stripped and I'd have to tow it there.

My recently sold roof rack and fj steelies paid for everything.

Next week is showtime.

thank you for the info. Some time this year i'll have to paint mine( hood is really getting ugly) so thanks again i can use the info for sure.

The woman wasn't too happy about me spraying in our garage. My good friend offered up his shop space. So I loaded up the cruiser on the trailer and off I went. Sprayin in the AM!

Good luck dood and have fun. Wear a respirator!

4 gallons is way more than enough to spray your truck. You can cover it all in 2 and get good thickness with 3. Unless you're spraying the inside too?

Good luck!

subscribed... Good luck with the Al's. I am wanting to do this to mine also. Thx for spending the time to document total you paid for your supplies, etc...

Sneak peek

Just finished before dark. Here's a sneak peek in crappy light...

Yes, I see the little white spot above the rear glass. It was the only edge we missed when masking off. I have some touch up paint that will cover that up nicely.

I have a lot of work ahead of me. I plan on painting all the black trim around the windows, handles, mirrors and armor flat black. Then put it all back on...

You missed a spot ;p

That looks GOOD! More pics sir.

I would paint your door handles and rims satin white. That would look cool and totally different. Black will look awesome too, but just a thought.

thanks, I'll post some more when I get the trim and lights back on. I'm waiting for new tail lights, marker lights and exterior trim clips.
that olive drab?? looks great either way
I'm not exactly sure what it is. It's green, but sometimes has a olive look.

I would have painted them satin black, but someone has managed to buy it all up in SD. What color is your rig again?:flipoff2:
