@Pigeaten just posted how some don't understand "our generation" and it got me thinking. As I look at PP21 pics from everyone I see a pattern with most. I'm 52 with 1 kid going to college next week and another entering her Senior year. Hair greying a bit, full figured and I'm suppose to take a couple meds every day when I can remember.

I have been fortunate to own a few of these cruisers and in the beginning I tested the waters with 80's, 100's and some 62's. All these came and went as I held onto the 40 I loved. Now I have no desire to own any of them again, nor do I have any interest in owning a new car. My oldest Cruiser is a 84 Troopy with a couple in the 60's. I love cranking a window even if it requires me reaching back behind me to roll the dogs window down.

Over the last 3 years I feel like I have settled on my long term traveling cruisers with the PIG being at the top.

Saturday I hope to go buy a 2003 F350 with the 7.3 Diesel and next spring get rid of my GMC with all the DEF after having had a couple issues and I doubt it will get better.

I am self reported to be grumpy at folks more then usual and am becoming less tolerant of blatant stupidity. Simply I just don't give a crap about a lot of stuff and frequently tell the wife "quit worrying about what ya can't control"

I relish a Saturday morning morning coffee and Andy Griffith or an old "Twilight Zone" before going to the shop.

20 years ago I wore a white coat and tie only to realize I didn't care to impress anyone. Now its jeans, boots and a Hawaiian shirt and people genuinely prefer it from comments I receive.

If I never saw another Kardashian commercial my life would be complete.

Anyone have the same thoughts??

Nurses at my clinic got me a nice flannel for colder weather, they know me pretty well.

I can relate with some caveats. I love driving my pig around Auburn and my 75 pickup around Riyadh. However, if I have to go to Atlanta or Dammam respectively it will be in something more comfortable. I'm already counting down the days when all I wear will be shorts and a T-shirt. Sweatshirt on top when it's chilly outside.

Resonates with me for sure. Could run off on a thousand tangents related to your post, but FJ55 specifically, super cool and unique yet challenging platform to make a daily driver/long distance traveling/exploring rig. A lot of easier ways to go, but few carry the mystique. It’s a very small sliver of the population that go through the rigors of driving, maintaining, and building a classic four-wheel drive vehicle instead of or in addition to buying and driving something newer.

Cheers to that. Nice shirt! (Sun’s out, guns out 💪🏻)

You’ve got me by 10 years. I’m not sure if it’s the pig, kids or mid life that makes me feel like I’m aging. I’d say it’s the sore joints in the morning and the need to actually stretch before doing anything physical. Perhaps the older one gets, the more you appreciate the simple things. Pigs are prettty simple.
Oh, and I’d like a van like this…

Love the “Babe Safari” that’s awesome

I have you by a few years (59). Son just graduated, but is starting grad school in 3 weeks.

Brother (passed 10 years ago today, was 46) and I were very into fast cars back in the 70s and early 80s. Nearly all GM. I guess that’s were the “modify it” comes from. Brother had a 77 T/A with a 454BBC in it, had a lot of fun in it. Grew up in Vegas, and you could still cruise Fremont Blvd back then.

I’ve told it elsewhere but the wife had a 89 4x4 Hilux when we met in 90. She’d wanted a white FJ62 but couldn’t afford it then. She has one now. 132k miles, dead stock 1989 FJ62. She’s the second owner. She wants zero mods which is its own challenge.

In 2004 I bought a 74 fj40. Still have it. Went the vortec / auto route but want to go back Toyota this time. Gave it to BTB for a while, but I eventually took it back and my brother and I finished it on the side of his house during the summer of 2005. He was between jobs, so I paid him to work on it with me. It was seriously hot that summer. I can’t get rid of it because of the memories I have of him.

I have a 2008 f-350 that I bought to pull the trailer with my dad’s dragster in it back from vegas 2 years ago. Just drove it ATX -> DEN (pick up the kid) -> SLC and I’m sitting in DEN tonight before i drive home tomorrow. I went to see my sister who now has stage 4 cancer. It’s spread to her liver. She started hospice Saturday. She’s 53. When she goes, that’s it for the family I grew up with. sucks a lot.

I’ve made presentations to thousands of people, convinced investors to part with hundreds of millions of dollars in companies I’ve worked for and for the last 9 years have run a very large open source project (2m installs since late 2017.) The wife and i employ about 100 people spread around the world.

The time I do get to work on a pig (I have 4, in various stages) makes me happy, but there is very little time. Part of it is not having to direct someone else.

I’m at least as grumpy as you.

For me in a David Lynch “Wild at Heart” sort of way an FJ55 is “a symbol of my individuality, and my belief... in personal freedom”.

Given how few were imported, how rough climate has been on them, and the challenges to maintaining one today you have to be an intentional owner. Plus the $5,000 build budget favors someone older and into their prime earning years or retired with time and a lifetime of skills under their belt.

You got 10 years on me too. I share some of your grumbles. I don't think the pig is a sign of age. It is such a cool vehicle and attracts many walks of life. I certainly wasn't old when I bought it 9 years ago. My pig is my escape from dealing with humanity. Upgrading it or using it. Ironically it is probably the 2nd leading cause of social interaction behind work.

You guys have a lot more sand left in the top of the hourglass than me. I'll be 75 next month. Pigs and old Porsches keep you young. Only sign of aging is the rapidly increasing desire to have a/c in at least one of 'em.
Whenever anyone talks to me about aging I just tell 'em it beats the hell out of the alternative. At least most days.

I think 🤔 anything pre 1980 is cool, as long as it has an engine! My newest vehicle is my 79 F250 4x4 supercab wich is my bi - daily driver, seeing I don't go anywhere. My others are Ole Blue with is 76, Ornch is a 73 and has been parked for a while! Then there's my 66 Ford custom 500. All cool in my opinion because they have my touches 😳😉😂🇺🇸. I don't give a Rats Ass what anyone says, I do and say what I want, shoot straight from the hip and always have! My wardrobe since my aneurysm has been Camo shorts and tank tops with I will wear past December 😉. I have also been accused of being GRUMPY 🤔😒, I have the Whiskey glasses to prove it!! The best part of owning a 🐷🐷 is The Brethren, always there in good times and bad 😉🤔🇺🇸.

im 44 (faarq had to think about that).. and nothing gives me the same driving pleasure as when im driving a 40 or 55.. sure mine is a long way off what a stock pig is like but i dont intend on buying another vehicle anytime soon.. hoping our 3 kids, all under 10, grow up making some awesome memories in it....

i know. My wife says the same thing
But this last weekend I kept my mouth shut, we drove to LA to meet the mother of our grandson. She is 30 weeks, I was pissed when I heard, but realize Im old school. Just pray baby, mom, and Father are up for this adventure. My wife and I are excited(and a little freaked) but happy. a different set of ideals, but family-cheers

I’m “only” 39, but have a kid in college, 2 more not too far behind, been in the military 20+ years, have committed to wearing overalls 5 days a week, and look 49. I guess I’m old for my age.

Uncle JMack is always giving me hell about my poor decisions, but when he was my age I’m sure he was wayyyy dumber than I
now.

I grew up poor and on a daily basis wonder about the irrational reasoning wanting to own a Pig and how I’m very near the $5000 budget ….. until I drive it, then it all goes away.

I don’t believe there is a better support group/ gathering of weirdos/do anything for you/ no rules with a build/ Internet team than this 55 forum.

until I drive it
We’ve all heard about this but very few of us have actually seen you drive a pig.

As far as we know you are trailering the pig to all these locations for a photo shoot then hopping in the Tacoma and driving home… Just saying!
