Also, it is designed for the factory fender flares and mud flaps, so there is a gap at the front. I installed aftermarket flaps.

Which flaps did you go with? Do they attach to the bumper, body, or both?

I miss my FJ55 and was thinking FJ60 or 62... Now, THIS has got me saving my dough for a 80. Now I just have to find one in good shape and pick between the 3F motor and 1FZ. Decisions, decisions! I will very likely go for a very similar build. For sure with the body work (remove flares etc, fill holes) and the liner for paint. Very robust, looks good! Can't wait to buy one next year when I save the cash.

Same Bike

LOL. I have the same bike. Same nerf bars, paint, and side cases and everything minus the fairing Also haven't done my rims and frame yet. I have often thought it complements the 80 perfectly.

I agree. Please send two of these bikes to me immediately. They would have fit in perfectly at our last campsite which looks like it's in Africa. It was Africa hot, but only went as far as Black Butte Lake in Northern California.

Mud Flaps

I used some aftermarket mud flaps made of heavy rubber/fiber I found at a chain auto parts store. I mounted them to the inside of the fender wells with heavy sheet metal screws. I can take some detail pics if you need them.

I keep thinking about doing this to my rig, but living in the North East I have to plan on future rust repairs.
I can't imagine trying to strip this stuff to get to a problem area.

I think if you prep well, this finish will prevent a lot of issues with rust, etc.
As to the door handles, I roughed them up and used rustoleum satin black spray paint.

Mud Flaps and Ultra Gauge

As promised here are some pix of the simple mud flap installation. I used the stock holes where possible and reinforced with self tapping sheet metal screws.
Also, relocated the ultra gauge to a spot where I can more easily view when I am driving. Just used a bit of angle aluminum and velcro. Worked fine for the last 2500 miles.

sorry about highjack of main thread but is there a recommended tiedown system for those pelicans? and if so, any particular size?

The pack rat luggage frame that I bought for the bike required me drillin 4 holes in the pelicans and attaching them to the frame with supplied thumbscrews and rubber washers the provide weather protection

shermantank: great build!! does the dingo see much highway? was curious to get your input on how the 255/85/16's handle on-road as they're a bit narrower than the stock tire size.
