Need oil leak diagnosis assistance for 1997 FZJ80. I have a moderate oil leak on the forward half of the driver's side of the engine. Oil is pooling on power steering pump. (Picture attached). I haven’t begun turning wrenches yet. Anyone had similar issue?

Distributor shaft O ring could do that leak

Wash that area off then watch where it starts to reappear.

If it's not the distributor O-ring, oil pump cover gasket, or even the valve cover, consider this:

Thanks for the link. I'll try these suggestions and let everyone know the result.

Follow up post. I am almost certain the source of the oil leak is the power steering pump. No power steering fluid is leaking, only motor oil. I plan to replace the shaft seal (large seal that fits around the engine driven gear). My plan is to remove the two mounting bolts and slide the pump out far enough to access the shaft seal, replace, then reinstall. Anyone done this? I anticipate some oil leaking but I believe it should be straight forward unless Im missing something.

Has anyone fixed a leak (FZJ80) coming from the large O-ring (90301-73004) located between the PS pump and the block, and can it be done with the pump still attached to the hoses ie: just pull the pump out, replace the O-ring, reinsert the pump? Do the hoses have to come off or can they stay attached?

You should reseal the pump. It’s simple enough and you need to pull it to replace that seal anyway.

Oil leak was identified and repaired. The power steering pump oil seal needed to be replaced. The pump was in good shape with no leaks other than motor oil leaking from where the pump mounts to engine. I unbolted the pump from underneath the engine (14 mm bolts) and pulled it out about 2 inches. I then installed a new oil seal and bolted it back into place. I did not disconnect the power steering fluid lines. No banjo bolt, no crush washer, and no bleeding power steering system. The lines had enough flex to slide the pump off the mounting bolts. The engine motor oil was drained and the oil filter was removed for better access to the upper bolt.
