GREAT build thread. I love to see threads like this. Full of good ideas. I grew up around the military and I love to see vehicles with this desert look!

By the way, you are starting to wheel your vehicle now so you should invest in sliders. There are many photos on MUD of people who wheeled without them and bent up their rocker panels.....very expensive to fix and can result in leaky doors.

Thanks for the input. I do have sliders on order, they did not make it here before the trip. I was extra cautious because of this.

One question though, whats up with that strap on the Discovery's roof rack in post #78? Was another vehicle trying to pull him with that while you winched him out of the bush?

Hey man I love the tan 80 look looks sweet specialy with no flares. If you don't mind me asking where you got your front and rear mudflaps because I'm gonna be going flarless as of tomorrow

LR Rescue

The Discovery slid at an angle downward to where it was nearly tipping onto passenger side. We fixed a long tow strap to the driver side rail to help keep it balanced on its wheels while I pulled it out. Three guys pulled on the strap while I winched.

I had the rear ones which are approx 12x18. I got the front ones at Pep Boys. I think the rear ones came from there or a similar parts store.

Decided to round out the Dingo with some bush wires. Maybe not always practical, but they saved the windshield on Sherman a couple times from heavy branches. Didn't cost but about $20 in parts.

Did you buy these or make them? These could be helpful as I bang around in a lot of thick bush. Truck looks great BTW. One of my favorite colors on an 80.

Bush Wires

Thanks for the comments. I am very happy with the tan and black combo.
As to the wires, I made them myself using standard hardware:
From rack to bumper:
insulated pipe clamp
small bolt/nut
turnbuckle
small reusable chain link
galvanized 1/8" cable with aluminum clamps (the type you flatten) and shrink tube
1/2" galvanized plumber's pipe strap inside shrink tube
small bolt/nut
Krylon Fusion painted them.
Wrapped electrical tape around bull bar where strap sits for added grip. I made sure all fittings were tight and used thread locker as driving vibration can loosen fittings.
They worked very well deflecting branches on this last trip when heading through tall brush.

Ah ok. Surprised that the Disco roof rail didn't rip off with all of that weight on it. I guess they are stronger than they look.
Anyway, your 80 is nicely built. Good job.

And you must be in a high speed unit to drive land cruisers. I am waiting for my time to serve down range.

Handles?

Not sure what handles you are talking about? If on the white 105 series on the first page, then yes, they are stock steps to get to the roof. I hope to find some or make something similar.

yes that is what i was looking at. if you find or make some i will buy a set
