hello,

The PO installed some rear market lights on my BJ40 and wanted to cover the cut-outs as well as the exposed area. Has anyone made, found or have a suggestion to put some type of guard on it. Something that gives it a more finished clean look? I searched all over the net and nothing appears to be a good solution. Maybe I am the only one that is bothered by this unfinished look?

I dunno.

Most of the FJ40 looks unfinished.

If it was good enough for Mr. Toyota, it is good enough for me; maybe I'm just a purist though.

Yes, I agree thaey are with an unfinished look but I do use mine to haul wood, supplies and other items. So my idea is to protect the marker lights as much as possible. Already had to replace two connectors. Maybe just need more electrical tape and call it done. Would be nice tho to have some type of guards. Much like the rock guards for the rear taillights.

If you have a welder you could build a cover/cage. I would probably leave the underside open to access the nuts.

Many other ways to build it though. You could bend some tin/aluminium roofing type material and use rivots, screws or JB weld.

 You can try modifying some 4651 headlight buckets. Those house the small rectangular headlights on older cars, so you have a visual. They seem like they would be a nice fit over the back of those marker lights. You can weld some tabs on them and drill to accept the same screws that hold the marker light on. In theory, it sounds good! :hmm:

You can put a carpet, leather, or vinyl insert in that covers the whole section of quarter panel. But honestly, just installing new lamps, stainless screws and nuts, and making the wiring clean looks nice rather than covering it up. A fj40 is a utilitarian vehicle. I wouldn't cover that up, just make it look nice.
