Just so y'all don't think I've given up on this ol' girl. I cleaned her up, got a set a 1971 Fj040 steel wheels, have a line on refurbished seats, and fender flares (gasp). I know many of you hate flares, but these fenders are seriously hacked up, and I don't really care for the stock look, so...

Also, I'm no mechanic as I found out tonight. That very lound banging I thought heard coming from the motor was actually the output shaft of the semi-disconnected rear driveshaft banging on the frame. Once that was disconnected the motor purred, albeit loudly since it has no exhaust pipe.

Now the list gets more defined. I need to get a floor speed shifter for the tranny and transfercase as the three on a tree and vacuum transfercase are missing parts/ broken. Also need to figure out what to do for an exhaust.

I'm back at it again on the ol' girl! Between work and a startup buisiness I'm a bit strapped for time, but I'm sure everyone has stuff going on so I'll quit whining and start working.;)
Pulled the old seats, and gas tank tonight. I'll have to weld in some new metal on the fron floor boards, but other than that the interior is in decent shape.
Does anyone else have clear plastic fuel lines? Mine has some sweet, very old and brittle lines that I'm assuming are not stock?
Anyways I'll try to get some work done tomorrow.

The interior will be getting new seats, floor shifters, and undercoating as well as some new sheet metal.

About time, my stuff is taking to long, I need your stuff to get my fix in. Get with Alaskafj about your column shift stuff, he might be interested.

It's going to be slow going, but I really want this thing on the road by next Summer. we'll see if we can get there. I'll be working on the floor shift tomorrow. My column shift is a JB welded nightmare, but the transfer case vacuum shift seems to be in semi-working order.

4x4 that runs for $500.......i would say you did pretty good!
oh snap is that a landcruiser? BONUS!!

I thought I had a better picture of my winch off my 69 FJ40, but I think it is the same. The PTO was originally mounted directly off the end of the tcase.

Wow nice score! I am always looking for a deal like that! I swapped my colum shift and 4wd to the floor. My truck still wont shift into 4wd so I did something wrong with the linkage.I used a set of old barrell stye locking hubs.I did it all when I swapped in a 71 F engine that runs great. If you swap yours to the floor post up some pics. But I still drove it all summer around town and had a blast just having it on the road!
Let's also see some pics.of the engine bay when you get a chance.Truck looks to be in great shape for being up there in that weather! Barn find? Where was it stored?
:wrench::wrench::popcorn::beer:

Oh yea,my 40 came with the clear plastic fuel line like that also.I had my tank flushed and painted.I used some rubber fuel lines(not recommended) as they are starting to get cracked only where it bends out of the gas tank. But used the hard lines in the engine bay.

nice find

subscribed and if we are lucky some pics of ALASKA while we are at it:clap:

wow myquesttoyota! That's a cool pic and a sweet truck! I suppose I can throw in a pic or two of some Alaska wilderness.

Sgirt, that's the exact same as mine! I'm pretty sure I'll be pulling mine and installing a Warn 8274 in its place.

I'll snap some pics of the floor shift install and I'll snap some overall pics of the Cruiser later tonight.

Thanks for the support, I'm sure I'll have more questions for y'all as the project progresses.

Thanks

sunday

nice photo---was it Sunday perhaps? I was up to Anchorage a couple years ago and the scenery was out of this world, really loved it and would love to have my fj there

Probably Easter Sunday I'm guessing. My brother and I had our "dress-up" shorts on. LOL
Back then you had to pass through Tok if you were headed from Fairbanks to Anchorage. Army brat.

$500, what a great find, very annoying.

I love that picture. Shorts in the snow, almost Canadian.

Got a little more done this weekend. I was torn between keeping the stock drivetrain or installing a 2f/ 4-speed combo. I pulled the three on a tree stuff and installed a three on the floor. The tranny looked good. Also pulled the PTO off (going to use a WARN 8274) it had NO gear oil, but everything looks good so far in there. I think I'll proceed with the current drivetrain.
I'll pull the rest of the PTO and winch stuff later in the week as well as pulling all the vacuum transfer shift stuff. Here's some pics.
