Trollhole is a BAD influence!

The Tamiya 40 on the CR-01 Crawler chassis should arrive this Friday.
It's being shipped today! :grinpimp:

My old Trail Blazer R/C 40 is also 1/10 scale. It's topless so the
Tamiya should make for a nice pairing.
Pic is the Trail Blazer 40.

that is seriously sweet David!!! You need to bring that thing up the BBQ we can set up a rock crawling course

Well, it is a kit ya know. Damn near putting a truck together with tweezers.
LOL..you have to fill up shocks with oil and bleed them even. My goal is to have
ALL the R/Cs up for play at the Pumpkin Festival. I'm designing a rock course on
4x8 for the 1/64 40s. They are F&R locked. Different gear sets and tires. On 2
separate channels. Friendly competition. Heck there might even be a trophy. :grinpimp:
But, if the Crawler is ready by the BBQ, it's coming...in baby blue.

Where did those little ones come from David?

skunkwerks project

Where did those little ones come from David?

Radio Shack had some closeouts of Zip Zap monster trucks. I had some diecast
Mighty Wheels 40s and a dremel tool. The bodies had to be modified but the
scale was spot on. They have different gear sets and a variety of wheel tire combos.
I drilled out the headlights and tail lights and installed led lights. Headlights work
in forward and tail lights come on in reverse. They have two frequencies to choose
from so they can be used together. They do wheel stands and trick spin outs too.

I have one more to make thanks to John, who still had one of those mighty wheels
he generously donated to the project.

parts...omg

What in the blue blazes have I gotten myself into.
From the look of things my Oct deadline for completion
is looking a bit silly. It dang sure won't make the BBQ next month.
The smallest box must have a thousand little parts and nuts, etc.
Holy Cow!

build has begun

Well, I finally started the Tamiya 1/10 crawler build this weekend.
Man is it detailed!
So far I've got the main chassis and axles built. It's about like building the real thing
just smaller. I went for locked axles instead of the open diffs. :hillbilly:
Reading the instructions made me wish I had opted for 4 wheel steering.
Oh well I can always upgrade. :grinpimp:
I must have put together over a hundred nuts and bolts so far.
Suspension is on the menu tomorrow. The goal is to have it ready for the Crab and Shrimp fest
coming up. If I get lucky maybe the annual meeting. ;)

Can't wait to see this thing at the campsite! Plus I am staying right around around the corner from you. I'll trade you some breakfast to get a go behind the controller?

It's a deal! I'm leaning toward bringing the whole r/c horde.

build progress

Moving along.
Axles installed with servo for steering.
Check that drop and flex!
Shocks and springs tomorrow. Then the
planetary gears and tranny. :grinpimp:
Added a speed controller with ABS and traction control to
the mini beast's mod package.

That's cool stuff right there, much more detailed than I thought it would be.

Hmmm...paging Santa Claus...

Can't wait to check it out in person!

a set back...grrrrr

Well, I made a lot of progress. Built the tranny and finished the suspension.
Hook up the motor and servo for a test run. NO REVERSE!
Seems my supplier ASSUMED I would be racing this beast and ordered a
racing esc (electronic speed control) . Apparently the hardcore crawlers
don't need no stinking reverse.
A new esc is on order and should be here Tuesday.
I can still install the wheels. ( 80....that's right..80 tiny screws for
the beadlocks) :hillbilly:
I'm going to try and start the body this weekend. 60 stickers for details
AFTER I do the painting.
It ain't making the annual meet. Bummer.
Looking good for a beach trip however. :grinpimp:

Nice build, Gundy. Looks like a lot of fun.:wrench::wrench::wrench::wrench::wrench:
