I can see Gundy drooling from here.

Sounds like a good idea. I guess you would have to add some posts with clips to the LR chassis in order to mount the body, correct? Looks like a nice Dec. project. Does that LR R/C seem like a good unit compared to the ones at Wal-Mart. I guess it basically is like those, except $35 instead of $50 plus.

For 35 -50 bucks they are what they are. Kid's toys.
The one I linked had a lot of bells and whistles for the $.
goggle Axis AX10 for a really bad ass crawler that the
Bushwacker will fit on. Better crawler chassis than the CR-01.
Still kind of pricey. Over $200.
With any project like this expect to have to do some creative modding.
Just like real Cruiser. ;)
I think I'm going to order an AX10 for a Bushwacker body I now have
so I'll have 2 crawlers for some friendly competition with pals.
The Bushwacker is a later model FJ (ambie doors etc) and isn't as detailed
as the Tamiya. Tamiya runs about $42.
They both will have a film on the outside to prevent overspray and come
with precut masks and stickers. More with the Tamiya of course.
While at the beach I bought an airbrush painting system so I can get
the color EXACTLY like the real Gundy. I'm planning on an interior
for the next Tamiya body as well. Winter project.
The body I had at the beach was my beater Tamiya body.
Damn I hate it when I get a new addiction. :grinpimp:
It's Marshall's fault.....the bastard! ;)

Bushwacker on an Axial AX10 chassis.
This is the one referred to in this thread from Canada.
Note the CRAZY flex!

another BW on AX10

this one is by a guy from AU
Note the body attaches with posts on the sides in an ax10.
You can attach a body however the mating requires
and I think you can get posts at a hobby shop or
make your own. All you'd need is a plastic/metal tube/stick
and drill holes for pin so you can remove the body for access
to the guts of the thing. I know hobby shops sell the pins.
Heck I got a few spares if you can't find them. :)

I think it's a Sami grill. I am sure you could add that Bushwacker body no problem. It is a 1/10 scale. It is going to be over $400 though, so the Axial might be the way to go. They make a RTR Scorpion Rock Racer that gives you everything for $250. It even has 2 pinions for fast or slow running. Along with the locker for the front if you want. Makes it a little more versatile. That might be the way to go, even though that front dig was sweet.

Do you know if the AX-10 has any brakes on it for inclines? Don't have to put it in reverse to hold, and then the next pump in reverse will reverse it.

I'd bet, I don't know, the ax10 has ABS braking in the ESC. The CR-01 does.
Note with the Cr-01 and AX10 rear steer is available. Both of these crawlers have
the option of open/locked diffs. Many run open front and locked rear for better
turning radius.
The CR-01 has a wide asssortment of gearing available as well.
The RTR (ready to roll) AX10 is a good deal.
The CR-01 for $400 doesn't have ESC or controller or servos or batteries
or charger. So you could say the CR-01 is about $600 when all is said and done.
So the RTR AX10 is a really good deal when ALL costs are considered. IMHO
Be sure to start a build thread here when you start working on Jr's FJ40. ;)

it's heeeerrreee

My Axial AX10 arrived today. :grinpimp:
Now I can build a SERIOUS crawler and scale up the CR-01.
The CR-01 will get a full interior with driver, roof rack
and working lights. ;)
Ordered new relay rod, tie rod, steering box an 2 new 9.5 AT BFGs
for the 1/1 FJ40. It was getting mad at the lack of attention.
That crummy steering stabilizer JT sold me which bent my rods
at GSMTR a while back has caused the inside of my front tires to
wear. Grrrrrrrrr

Wow, good score David! I am still waiting on the busget crawler to get here. I just can't bring myself to drop $250 on a battery operated toy just yet.:) The "real" toy needs to get finished first. Will be definatley putting one on my Xmas wishlist though.

Can't wait for the build pics.

ax10

Here's the AX10 chassis with the "display" Bushwacker body.
I cut holes in this body to put it on either the CR-01 or the Ax10
so you can view the "guts" of the things.
The AX10 is going to have a cut up Bushwacker on it. :)
Hacked off front fenders and big cut outs in the rear. Kinda
like Bill Cross's 40. :hillbilly:
Note the funky suspension on the AX10. Sucker will turn sideways
in front with the rears still flat on the ground.
I have to install the front locker and crawling pinion gear next.

Nice....

What are the specs on your AX-10? RTR kit or building it yourself? If building it yourself I would be interested in knowing which "build kit", motor, servo, links, controller, etc. used. I know they make an "almost" RTR kit that gives you a nice start.

Thanks
Jeremy

I went with the RTR. After building
the CR-01 I was pooped out on
a zillion parts route.
I hate the lack of ABS on the RTR
sooooooo...here I go again.
I will add a new esc w/ ABS and
ditch the cheezy plastic links as
well.
For now I will reverse for brake
and repeat for reverse drive.
The front locker and 14 tooth
pinion are the only immediate
mods.
Next in line is painting the bushwacker to get skills with
the airbrush. ;)
Then back to working on the
scale CR-01.
Serious mods to the AX10 is
down the line.
I plan on making a bench seat
for the CR-01. :grinpimp:

Installed the front locker on the AX10 last night.
Geeesh...had to take down the whole front end
and remove the spider gears.
No way could I let the CR01 out crawl the AX10. :grinpimp:
Without a front locker it just wasn't able to keep up. ;)
New alloy suspension links should arrive next week.

Gundy's (the 1/1 one) new steering box arrived yesterday
and the new tires came in today. Now to install the tie rod,
relay rod, box and tires this weekend. Going to be a busy weekend.
