Amazon does not seem to have any 'Toyota' cables anymore. They all say for BMW or Honda...does it matter? The above link to ODB Innovations does not have to latest (2.0+) available, only v1.4.1. Any ideas where/what else we can get? I have the VM from original posting ready to go :)

Just looked at a bunch on ebay and they all say "Firmware v.1.4.x" did not see any that had the version 2.x even on the more expensive ones.
Does anyone know what the difference is in the firmware versions?

First step in the mud.. having same issue. Have techstream running, lacking a cable now. Just acquired my first 100 series. I have the red cable as noted in post #303. it does not work wth techstream. I also see on their site in forums they said they dont know anyone who has got it to work with techstream. I do have the latest firmware for that red cable and works fine with obdwiz, just not techstream. anxious for the right cable, but not stranded.

Yeah definitely want to get one that is compatible with the TechStream Software... OBDInnovations sells cables specific to TechStream. Otherwise there are tons of cheap options on Ebay and Amazon for you to choose from. A "real" cable is what most are trying to find for less than $75+.

The cable I bought in November is no longer there, but I found one that seems to be identical. I downloaded the software from them after buying and it works perfectly on my Surface tablet (win10). Here is the new cable:

Amazon product ASIN B084P3WCJC

Thanks @gregnash , looks like their 75$ cables with firmware 2.0.4 are backordered as well, but this is it. For my 2000 this seems to be what I need to find as opposed to the 1.x firmware. I signed up to be notified when avail

Why do you believe that there is a need for anything other than v1.x firmware cable??? I have the one that was originally linked in the first post (LZLRUN one from Amazon) with firmware v1.4.1 and 12.20.xx software and it works fine for my 98.

K-Line communication? I believe what i saw is 2004 and prior need firmware 2.x, due to K-Line issues? let me see if i can find the note again....
from OBD innovations facebook 2016 " Do you need a dealership level diagnostic tool for your 2005+ Toyota or Lexus? << this cable is the 1.X firmware.
add to that that the notes in here about 1.x firmware not working, it left me under the assumption the 1.x wouldn't work..... that being said, I am probably overthinking it. Ill get the one noted now.

I use that amazon cable to connect to my 2000 LC and our 2010 Seinna with no issues.

I submitted a question to OBDInnovations last night so we shall see if I get a response.
Basics was "What is difference between v1.4.x firmware and v2.x?" and "Will a cable that is 1.4.x work with newer version 13.xx software?"

Search google. The key is getting a 2.0.x version. By the way, this has been covered on numerous Toyota forums over the years, you can usually find it on a Tundra, Prius, or Lexus forum, including links to software, etc. I've had mine running for 8-9 years now, I've got some notes somewhere, but I'm struggling to find them at the moment.

The knock off cables use 1.4.1 or 1.4.6 (latest). The “real” cables use 2.0.1 or 2.0.4 (latest). They are all fake of course but the good fakes use the same firmware as the real Xhorse cable. The 1.4.1 firmware does not support active tests. The cable will work on 10 year old Toyotas like some in the GS forum have said but they will not work on the 2011 Prius as some on PriusChat said.

Believe I've posted this somewhere here before, but you can still get the 2.0.x cable here Search Result: techstream - J2534 Programmer-Scania VCI3- 5054A VAG COM Cable Online Store. If you read each of these, you'll see the difference between the products.

Drew Technologies makes the Mongoose Pro MFCs cable, this is the cable that Toyota sells as part of the Techstream Lite package. It's ~$500 via MongoosePro Toyota 2.

Thanks for posting. The cable looks to be the same as the one that I bought on Amazon last summer.

The 1.4 from amazon is not working with techstream. back to looking for the 2.0.4 now. Trying the first link from @planomateo, several cables listed. Top one appears correct. $56.00 with shipping, before i push the button on another cable... anyone confirm this is the one?

This weekend I had problems when I attempted to reinstall the product on a different machine. It turns out that my distribution CD from Amazon was missing the XHorse driver directory. There should be an installation step to copy XHorse Electronics to c:\Program Files (x86). Once I copied the XHorse drivers it started working.

Surely this is not OBDII on my car.

Can anyone please let me know how to identify the name of this connector so I order it on Amazon or Aliexpress?

Yes, sorry, English is not my mother tongue.

But yes, I wanted to know if the versions 12 or 14 are linked to software/firmware and can be therefore updated.

Thank you, I got my answer!
