How much do you have into your rig so far?

I'm looking into buying an FJ60 or 62. I'll be using it as a semi-daily driver (bike commuter here), driving in snow, and off trail.

For those of you who've got yours to run reliably, or are complete with refinishes inside and out, how much have you spent so far? Pics encouraged!

I'm just gonna guess that to get it to where you want it to be... You will have to pay double what you paid for it.

So you buy a $5k rig. Dump $10k of stuff in it. $15k rig. And you're happy. :)

That equation wouldn't work for an original owner though. Some day I'm going to add up all the receipts my Dad has. No way that will be less than $30k over the course of 30 years haha

i don't know, i've been driving the thing for almost 15years now. it was reliable about two years after i got it home. since then it's been maintenance and the occasional upgrade.

I think I would be ill if I added it all up......................

You can scrimp and these rigs will just go and go. Or you can baseline it and spend a ittle coin. Or you can swap engines/drivetrains/ets, upgrades galore, Or you can re-plate every nut and bolt and anal restore to factory condition.

All the above are going to cost widely different amounts. Of course it all depends on your personal taste for high end quality parts/upgrades, and your level of OCD.

So to sum it up... stoopid question.

I don't think it's a stupid question at all. Gives him an idea before jumping in and slowly sinking.
Like he said, costs can vary from $1000 up to $25000 if you want to pay someone to swap a 6bt.

He needs to post a few more ideas about what he thinks he wants... then it wont be a stoopid general question.

It's not a general question, I just want to know what others have spent. I want to know what I'm looking at based on what others have invested. I haven't been able to find anything like this online.

By the mile, it's probably more than some, but you don't curse at it when you have to spend money on it, like you would if you had a ..

Buy a $6,500 rig, expect to put $1k into it every year on average if you're not upgrading/modifying.

That being said it all depends on what you start with, how picky you are with small issues and how much you can do yourself. But really if you're asking this question daily driving a vintage 4x4 may not be for you unless you have a second car.
