120k on OEM HG. Guess I should go out and buy a bunch of stock in Toyota in preparation for all of the HGs they are getting ready to sell b/c of this jinx...

I have heard that the 1993 and newer models are the ones better known for the headgasket problems and the 1991-92s are very solid in this area.... is this true?

Thanks.

BTW - looking at two 91' Land Cruisers - one with 202K and one with 236K - original gaskets.

yes, 91-92 have different engines (3fe). The 3fe has less power. You can do a search and find more info.. 3fe engine found in 62 series LC also.

while shopping found one running strong with oem hg at 220,000 mi. the one i bought is 160,000mi and appears solid.

95 fzj 80 stock locked

Thanks Archie...

Do more people seem to prefer the 91-92 engine despite the lower power, over the 93+ since it has higher HG problems?

I had a 3fe powered 1989 fj62. I definitely prefer the motor and tranny of my 93. The 93 also has not blown a head gasket yet like the 3fe did at 112,00 miles.

People who own 91-92 80s love them, despite the lack of power (like me:D).

Sorry to hear that :frown:. especially sorry to hear that in this thread. This is the thread that is supposed to make us feel confident about our original head gaskets.

I would like to keep this thread on the posititive , I was was on that posititve kick my self til my truck pee'd on my day ... Sorry about the negitive post , I hoped my gasket would last .
Lucklly it must have happened the last time I drove it home and it did not over heat cause any damage .
It's some thing to think about , especialy if your planning on hanging on to your truck for a long time ...mine just let go out of the blue .
