What is it that your doing back there, I have never had my dash that far apart 😜
How else would you check your head gasket?

Lmao chill, it’s on process. I just don’t want to create another thread.
It’s actually pretty funny.
HG posts are so common that they have become a running joke 🤪

Hello,

I’m in need of a water pump gasket. My kid was playing with the gasket and broke it. Anybody have one extra laying around nearby SoCal? I need to get it done by tomorrow. :/

get a sheet of gasket material and cut one if it comes down to it

Any suggestions what to replace while everything is open? HG is done.

That’s a big rabbit hole. Especially if you’re asking here on Mud.

First and foremost, all parts should be OEM whenever possible.
An addition to what Ajax1 said, all new cap, rotor wires, plugs, distributor oil seal, oil pump seal, main crank seal, belt, pesky heater hose, fan belts idler pulley, intake tube and thermostat.

Some would suggest replacing the harmonic balancer if doing the main crank seal - maybe also the chain, chain tensioner/guide but that is going a bit deeper and if you are that far, might as well re-bore and up size the pistions....so yeah, just do what @DivByZero suggested.

Not that you have to do it now, but I'd also replace all the power steering hoses as they tend to weep at this age and check/replace the EGR and the EGR modulator. Every vacuum hose should be replaced. PCV should be checked for good function. For extra piece of mind, I'd wrap the wiring harness back there with some heat shielding. This is all easy stuff to do if your waiting for the head to be decked or something.

All vacuum hoses as well.

Use only Toyota hoses, aftermarket vacuum hoses, unless metric spec, generally suck ass big time!

Replaced all the things everybody mentioned. It is now running like a champ but one thing I came across about this truck is that the PO somewhat install a relay on starter. I’m trying to figure out why. I did research here in forum about bypassing starter I still don’t get it.

When I connect the harness directly to the starter, it does not start/crank but when I connect the relay (see pic) it cranks.

Anybody knows why it needed a relay?

By the way, thanks everybody for helping me out on this one. My mechanical skills are limited. I’m just lucky to have a brother that was mechanic in the Philippines back in early 2000s that worked on LCs few times but when it comes to electrical he kinda sucks so do I. 😂
