How do I use High beams as a trigger for my aux lights?

Also, for @ToyotaDon I find this very useful as I can run aux lights and high beams out in the country, and can shut things down to normal low beams with a standard flick of the wrist, vs shutting off high beams and fumbling for the aux switch all while stuffed into a corner on a mountain road.....

I run all my auxiliary lighting this way. Either on independently, off or slaved to the high beams. very seldom to I need to have them on independently, so 99% of the time they are off or slaved. I use my extra lights a lot. If I did not need them they would not be there after all. If you run your aux lights a lot, you need to be able to cut them off without delay when on the road. Reaching blindly for switches in the dark on slippery roads trying not to blind oncoming traffic is not good. Shutting it all down instantly with the high beam switch is the only way to go.

Actually, I learned that concept from driving my old mercury comet with a floor switch---hard to dim the lights mid shift!

Ended up just doing the on / off switch.

And the old KC Halogens are definitely not as bright as they were 10 years ago. As in technology sure has come a long way with the LEDs. Just had these laying around and thought I’d throw them up there.

Also are the reverse lights negative switching as well?

Hi I’m trying to wire this up. I followed the diagram but when wiring my high beams in they won’t turn off they just stay on even when the truck is totally off. Any help?

I just made a splice on the high beams to the relay of your auxiliary lights. I also added a switch in the dash for the auxiliary, for when I don’t need them. So to use the the auxiliary light, first push the switch in the dash then activate the high beams and the auxiliary lights also come ON.

So if saw correct you can plug in slees harness and then just put what ever light you want on?

You don’t need the slee harness just scroll up and look at the diagram. build your own harness

This is my second draft and I did a proof of concept installation.
I used an extra rear heater switch with OEM an connector and terminals, and a SLEE – 9005 High Beam Jumper Harness.
It works OK, but not exactly what I originally wanted. I'll need to source a different switch and play around some more with the logic.
My first draft had a constant +12 feeding pin 1 of the switch, but that failed because the switched ground for the high beams is a hard ground when the headlights are off, so relay 2 was always energized if I left the switch in the "HI" position.
In any case, the aux lamps work in conjunction with the high beams with the switch in the "HI" position as well as the flash function.
In the "LO" position, the aux lamps work with the low beams, but they remain on with the high beams. However, I don't have to remember to turn them off.

I guess it depends on what your definition of "perfectly" is.
If you just want the aux lamps to follow the high beams, that would work as well as any SPST switch.

Bumping this old thread… I’m struggling with wiring a 3 way dpdt switch to a light bar & relay to have the bar turn on independently, off in middle position, and on when high beams are turned on.

I have the slee harness so can tap into the high beams and understand the high beams are negatively switched, but can’t for the life of me get the wiring right with a standard harness kit. The best I’ve gotten is the bar to turn on independently and when the vehicle lights are turned on in general. Can’t get it to turn on with the high beams only.

Any electrical specialists that can sketch out a schematic for my smooth brain to comprehend?

Thanks, but don’t think this is exactly what I’m looking for. This shows the aux light coming on with the low beams in one switch position and then with the high beams in the other position.

I’m looking to have them turn on independently with nothing else on in one position and also in with my hi-beams in the other.

So instead of doing what I did, ignore the LO side of the switch that I used, and use another switch to feed +12 to the coil of what I called RELAY 1. Everything you need is right there in that drawing.
