I will be there, one way or another:

Looks like extra lights would be helpful. Guess I will be putting the Hella's on some weekeend.

i'm wondering if i should just get new 40" tires in time for this run and worry about gearing later, or just run the 36's. my effective gearing w/ the new tires will go from 4.56 to 4.10. i already have to run low range only in deep snow.

a side note. on Jon's link to chains, they have them for 39.5" tires at only $10 more than the smaller sizes! way cool!:grinpimp:

Onur, I think several of us have bought chains from these folks, TireChains.com.

Great website and very helpful folks (I called the 1-800 number to ask a few questions.)

I've got mine on the way - square link truck chains with adjusting cams ($83.59 per pair), and optional spring adjusters ($19.90 per pair), plus $18.99 shipping (UPS Ground), and I should be ready to roll.

Given all the conversation, I figured I would start with one pair for the rear tires. I can always add a set later for the front if I need to be really hard core.

Looking forward to snow runs!
Evan

Running w/o chains on a snow run is illogical to me :hmm: Digging yourself out every 20' is an exercise in futility. Glad to see more and more of us are using these handy devices.

Thbbbt! <----- this is a "raspberry." :D

Chains are like lockers. On one hand they make traction easier and can get you into even more trouble. On the other hand they take the fun out of driving in snow. At least we can go further, faster. I suspect having only two tires chained up won't be good enough after awhile. It's like having only one locker ... why have one when you can have two.

I'll pass this on to my LR buds so that you guys have more entertain like the previous years! If they come....

Ordered the same set up as Evan did above.....

So, those and brand new 35's should take care of the rough stuff in the mountains....

Can't wait!

Might as well get the Ham antenna ordered so that we can put them in before the run.

Good job Onur! My chains showed up yesterday. I haven't had a chance to break open the package and check them out, but I am impressed with the company and their service.

What type of "brand new 35's" did you get?

Yeah, great service indeed and they were very impressed with the ahem "application"... sort of like "cool....nice to see people using their Land Cruisers." Ding, ding, ding...we've got a good company there.

I'm getting the same tire I have currently--Dunlop Mud Rover's in the same size--315/75/16 which equates to about a 34.9" tire.

They will be here soon too. ready to roll!

i ordered my 39.5x13.5-17 Irok's the other day. they are in, but the new 17" rims aren't yet.

I just talked to a guy at work today and he said his buddy who just bought a LR, claimed he could run circles around our trucks because of the "price he paid" (It is his first 4WD). Do you want anymore entertainment?

Oh you gotta bring him along--and his truck....

Oh this could be so incredibly fun....in a twisted and demented sort of way.

I'm with Onur, bring him along! Besides, he might make me look better, not so noobish:p

Oh yeah, most certainly bring him along so that we can teach him properly....ahem...

it might be better if we left him at home. do you guys really want to spend a night in snow trying to extract somebody?

not that I would know:eek:

They would just need to have the limitations of their vehicle explained to them and be prepared to spend the night inside it. Other than that, they deserve a spanking Toyota style.

I've had a set of chains for several years and always brought with, but never bothered to use them. This year I will, conditions warranting. I guess I'm still feeling its a little bit like its cheating somehow, but I'll get over it.

Last year, I bought the chains the week before, and had no intention of actually using them, but figured they may come in handy if necessary. We didn't put the chains on, until it was already dark, and had spent at least 2-3 hrs trying to get Rory's truck either running, or out of the way.

I imagine it will be the same this year, except a lot more vehicles will have them in case of emergency.

I'm going to have to take them out, and do the spray painting Jon mentioned. Last year, it took quite a while to get them on in the dark, thanks to Rory's persistence.
