Maybe AmToy could get the part-time warehouse inventory guy to take up the slack if Dan calls in sick.

I would like to come out for this run. No chains for the mini truck but I think that it will probably do alright in the snow.

Please do!! It would be great to meet ya...

Nonsequiter: I got my new tires on the rig on Friday and tried them out. They done real well!

C'mon snow!

What, no pics with the new "meats" all Armor-All'd up? Maybe a few poser shots showing how shiny Aliphatic Naptha makes rubber tires look?

I sure hope I don't *get sick* next week. Then I would have to stay home from the 11th-13th (oh, and then those days after it...)

Hey Harry -

I hope you can make it - we haven't seen you in a while! I have not seen your truck in person, but I remember seeing pictures. It's pretty built, as I recall. I'm sure you will have no trouble.

I was in the Aleutian Islands all summer but I am back now and eager to do some wheeling. I tried to make it to the last meeting but it seems like there is always something else going on during the weekends. I look forward to seeing all of you again and getting up to the Jemez.

Since i have to be a loser this run and can't make it let me know if you guys want any chainsaws (I guess Jon and Dan have a few?). I have mine here and several more at work. If someone wants to pick one up or I can drop one off when driving around is not a problem. If there is a Sun recovery need, keep us posted and maybe I can make that. Either way have fun and take pics for the rest of us losers!

I was planning to go alone this year (Ashleigh wanted to stay home after last year's adventure), but I'm working too. Better hope for some weather; I was getting paid to "wheel" around Paliza yesterday and there wasn't much snow.

hopefully we won't have to share batteries this time

I was just thinking, if we can find a nice sled hill to play on, can we use Steve's 8274 fast winch as the tow rope back uphill? :D

And you could rig three or four snatch blocks and quadruple the uphill speed. :D

I think it actually would slow the speed. For every unit measured on the winch you would get 1/2 the distance on the other side if using a single block.:flipoff2:

Actually, we could hook it up like the 4th image (3 and 4 pulley arrangements) here:
HowStuffWorks "How a Block and Tackle Works"

Where it's hooked to the ceiling it would be hooked to a tree off to the side, and where it's hooked to the 100 lb weight it would be hooked to the winch cable. It wouldn't all be winch cable, it could just be rope (smaller pulleys too).

Off to the right end where it says 25 lbs. would be Ali running up and down the hill with the end of the rope.

Now all we need are the rope and two double pulleys!

P.S. this shows 25 lbs even though there is an angle between. It's understood that you have to divide by the cosine of the angle for the tension, which is why Marc didn't say that. :whoops:

I'll bring my rope and pulleys. Might as well learn something while we have fun!!

Like I said....Taken from the link:

"To hold the weight in the air you must apply only 25 pounds of force, but to lift the weight 100 feet higher in the air you must now reel in 400 feet of rope."

I think you're gonna need more rope, Ali.

Wish I wasn't working, I may have made the trip down for this one. I did go out into the Glades today. Good stuff, beautiful weather, no major rock crawlers though. I need to make some friends up here with like capability rigs.

Work it the other way - move the weight down 100 ft, and the rope off to the right (the one pulling Ali up the hill) has to come up 400 ft. We will pull on the weight with the winch.
