I was going to find a method for you that didn't require a torque wrench, but it looks like you're good.

The transfer case output preload is measured in inch pounds, not foot pounds.

I did find the right tools in the end, and my calculations on using a 0.6 meter arm with 450grams of pull had it in the ballpark.
I had to swap the shim from another case, but it turned out good.

It's all back together, took it for a spin last night after getting the rear ds in, and it is smoother now. Will put the front in when front locker is fixed.
The exhaust turned out great!
No rattles, clear diesel tune. After a egt and boost gauge, I'll turn the knob a bit

Lower gears on low is noticable.
The hi/lo shifter is a bit hard to get into lo, but it snaps in with some force.
Might just be adjustment of linkage.

Another wierd thing is that the 4wd light does not work. The sensor on the side has no continuity, as it should.
Vac is working. The sensor has this 5mm nylon spacer on it, came out of the early case I think. I can't remember seeing it on other cases, could that be it?

Next is getting the warn bumper to fit.
Shaving the rear to fit body lines.
Had to remove 1,5 inch at the top rear, which was only top plate.
Maybe I'll add a crossbrace when I see how the winch fits.
I'll put it together tonight, if it fits.

@reevesci suggestions strength-wise?

Should I brace the rear?
I will use two bolts top frame, and two bolts low side frame, each side.
I wish I could lift it another inch to bolt into bottom frame rail, it will be interfering with blinkers.

Bumper fitment almost done, need to remove the solenoid and do another tiebridge on the winch to make it fit.
It hits the plastic grille.
Or I could mount the winch lifted in the rear, maybe 6mm wedged spacer to tilt it a bit forward. Not sure.
This will turn out a pretty decent approach angle, as the bottom is half inch below frame and wings are as high as fender corner.
Would like to lift it up against frame, but then it covers some if the oem blinkers. Meh.

Comments /improvements on bumper appreciated.

I just a lead on a set of 16x6 steelies, loaded up the arb fridge, decided I was sick of messing with the bumper and went solo cruising to pick up the wheels.
They're in a bit rough shape, but we all know where this is heading!

Since I can't regear my diffs, right now, I'm leaning towards a set of 255's.
I think I can wear a set out in 1.5 years, so I'm gonna give it a go.
Or what?

Both are 6x16, chrome has 4'bs , white has 3,75 'bs .
I have a set of 1in spacers.
I think I'm going with the white toy ones, repaint and spacers.
Like I remembered, they are heavy!
I guess close to 30p?

Good, you know, sometimes one can go 'blind' when working alone on something.
I'll just beef it up a tad, and get it on, maybe Friday

Parts for the winch got expensive, so I'll put some spacers in there to lean it forward.
But I will eventually move the solenoid out of the way, and get a lid in the bumper.

The ko2 tires I ordered in 255/85r16 is not available. Dammit! After months of deciding I'd go for it.
I really don't wanna go wider on the stock rim either...
Suggestions?

You're gonna love the holy diesel, as for now I'm running it stock, and it runs great.
It passed 547 000km the other day, still runs smooth. Knock on wood!
From what I can see, there has been no rebuilds, I only suspect the oil pan has been off, water pump and maybe the turbo has been swapped.
All the tamper locks are on the ip, looks legit.

But, I have no idea of the history, I bought this basically as a barn find, had been sitting for about 10 years with just a few starts a year.
Po had no history of it, other than there's been a frame swap to a good hj60 84 frame, with all the hj61 goodies.
He just did some body work while it was sitting, and got sick so he could not finish it.
Is was a moving moment when we decided I'd complete this build, and enjoy it, as he realised he would never be able to follow his dream.

Hopefully I can make the engine last, at least a few years until everything else is addressed.

I do like the ones that I have on there right now, but they require some work to get the flaking alloy good, and I wanna go a bit shorter and narrower as this is my daily driver for now.
I can't fork out the $ needed to regear the 3.7 to 4.1 as they are cable lockers and quite expensive to regear.
-and keep running the 35x12.5 on 15x9s takes some milage as I drive at least for 2-3 hours a day.
the alloys has the proper 3.75bs, but requires some mild grinding to the runner calipers to clear.

I'll keep the alloy wheels, until I'm sure of the tall and skinny look and purpose.
I just always loved the look of a 60 on that size, and I've seen it really perform both on the trails and tarmac.

Only negative side of running the heavy steel 16x6 wheels from the 88 hilux, is the fact that I have to run 1in spacers to get the tire flush with the body.

I can see a long commute like that would definitely warrant skinny commuter tires. My truck is going more towards
overland/road trip use so I can stick with bigger tires. I have 3.70's with the Toyo 285/75R17's but the 12H-T makes
it okay to run the gears with those taller tires.
I really like the look of those alloy wheels though, wish someone would make decent fitting 17x9's in alloy that don't need
spacers

Got my bumper modded and fitted, packed for a solo trip and set the hammock up at a beautiful site.
First real test of the transfer rebuild, played out awesome, 5 hour drive to camp.
Pictures are a bit foggy, had just the cell with me.
Bumper turned out decent, I'll just have to swap the fairlead.

All photos are taken two or three hours after midnight, had to find a place with some midnight sun shade

After a night in the hammock, I drive another two hours and one hour ferry to the 'toyota island' to get some quality time with friends.

5cruisers, two hilux and 1.5 4runner...
Bbq, beer, 2or to 3l hz engine swap, oil change, clutch inspection, frame off resto, diff rebuild, brake fix, winch rig, cable locker research and a few other things got done.

Don't have much photos, dirty hands and beer will do that over two full days ;p

Indeed... I'm a bit behind on my schedule... Wrecked radiator, bad birfs, blown battery post, winch electrical, cb install, rear brake service, shackles and pins, bushings and new tires.
All that needs to happen before next Saturday, no matter what, I'm heading out Sunday for one week of trails in Finland, and one or two more weeks on and off the road.
Plausible?

Had a great time this weekend, as I ran out of parts to fiddle with.

Also I wired in and mocked up drivers side brackets for a set of bmw 7 series seats. 04 model, black buffalo leather.
They are really comfortable, love all the adjustments, only lacking the four way lumbar setting.
I think I found the right placement for them, just need to clean up the bracketry and paint it, then do the same on the other side.
Only issue is that it's super wide, had to take off the big plastic cover around the cable locker mechanism to fit the rails.
