So today I finished putting the power windows and central locking parts in my truck.

So now I have a problem.

The wiring is there for the passenger side both doors but when I removed the seatbelt from the B pillar on the drivers side, no wiring, so checked along the wiring channel under the carpet and again no wiring for the locks or windows.

So I looked up around behind the fuse box and also doesn't seem to be any connector for the wiring coming out of the drivers door.

I don't get it, why would they put half the wiring in and leave the other half out.

Has anybody fitted factory Central locking or power windows to their vehicle, if so how did you go about the wiring on the drivers side.

Thanks

I hate those chrome strips that they have around the doors etc.:bang::whoops:

I removed the one on the drivers door and wow more hidden rust:censor:

Keep Up The Great Work Spudman!

Do You Think You'll Do A Full Re-Spray?

Cheers Michael

Thanks mate

Once I've finished repairing all the rust, I'll make that decision, I purchased 6 cans of spray paint the original colour so once I've patched it all up and sprayed those areas I'll have a serious look at it.

I've spray a couple of cars before and I've got all the equipment, so we'll see what happens

Great job so far. Being in Canada and working on a HJ60 regulalry I know the pain you are in with that rust. Hell my 80 series has rust too, there is just no getting away from salt on the roads 4+ months a year here.

Next time you are at the wreaking yards could you see if any of the 80's have these headlights? Just need the bezel and the mounting system, no lights or side markers. Also a price on something like that.

Just trying to get an idea if its worth it or not getting them down there.

Sounds Like You Need To Try A "Electronic Rust Prevention " System, Like COUPLETEC Or E.R.P.S.

Cheers Michael

Pretty much all aussie 80's have those headlights, just call up an aussie wrecking yard for prices.

Good progress spud even if it is two steps forward one step back. That's the nature of a project.

I'll find the link for Kev's power window and door fixes and post them up in a sec, I don't know if it showed the looming but he has the best fix for the slow moving windows and locks and it may be better for you to implement the fix than scratch around looking for the original gear.

You could try super cheap or repco for trim plugs to plug those holes. They should have them in the right size and colour.

I can't get the link to work but if you search for this: Power Windows and Door Locks--Permanent Fix!

You should find it easily. And I was wrong it was not Kev but slc's mad skills.

Hi guys, today I pulled the dash out on both vehicles to have a look at the wiring loom, and lucky me thank god I did, the connector that I was looking for was right up in the top, so it's all good, I just had to remove the loom from the right passenger door to under the dash.

As I removed the dash I thought I might as well remove this for Click

Hi Spud,
I am now over here on Mud.
Build going along nicely. I have lived your pain, as I have done a ground up rebuild of a 40 series(before camera phones & digital photography so no photos)

Regards Pete

Hey Pete

Welcome to mud mate, I was going to do a BJ40 but the locals kept hounding me till I sold it to them.

Also purchased a set of black and silver 16 X 7 rims for my truck, $250 for 4X, they were on a Nissan patrol but they didn't fit correctly, you can Nissan Rims on a Toyota but you can't put Toyota rims on a Nissan :flipoff2:

This afternoon I wired up all the doors and gave it the big test, 3 doors lock and unlock, unfortunately the door that not locking/unlocking is the door that I put the door card back on :bang:

Tested the power windows and they all work off the drivers door, the back right goes down but doesn't come up from its switch and the drivers door goes all the way up or all the way down, no in between, so it looks like a couple of switches might be a bit dodgy, might just need a spray.

I also checked out the central locking in the tail gate of my donor vehicle it's all there, I then checked out my vehicle and there is no wiring in the upper tailgate for the central locking and also the bracket that you bolt the module to is missing, so I need to think about whether or not it's worth it, if I want it original then I'll have to do it.

Good work! I was wondering if power windows is a good option. There is no extra wire loom in my hj61rg, therefore it could be too much trouble putting in.

Don't give up mate, you'll find that most of it is there, just gotta look hard for the connectors, the only part missing was right passenger door to front and I have a sneaky suspicion the po has removed it for something else :)

Firstly I put my dash all back together, that bloody speedo cable is a pain in the butt:bang: gotta hold your tongue at the right angle.

So anyhow back to more cutting today, I cut out the rust around the top of the right rear wheel arch and also the rust around the drivers door and the passenger door.

I then cut the templates out to weld them in, but unfortunately Toyota has changed the setup of the doors and the channel near the window is different with early model doors and late model doors, so I have to go and find a set of late model doors to cut up

While I was cutting and grinding my new wheels turned up, secondhand but new to me. $250 for 4 a bargain I reckon, they are 16X 7

I think they'll look real nice with the red :steer:

Hey Crick

Yep, I'll try and explain, where the outer door skin folds over into a channel where the window goes into the door, the early 60's is just 2 flat bends to form a channel, but the late 60's has a little indentation in the fold of the channel so when you put the old and the new together the old is too wide.

Just keep learning new stuff every day
