What a spin out. I forgot all about that switch.
It's the rear door (tail or barn door) lock unlock.

Thanks Crick

I might put that in my truck, I have aftermarket central locking but not on the tailgate, so that would be handy

Ok time to show off my other HJ61 that I purchased today, I think I will call it 'The Pig'

So it's a 1989 HJ61 with factory 12HT (purrs like a kitten) basically I purchased it for what's inside it, it's a Sahara, so it's got factory power windows, central locking, power mirrors, it has the bucket seat with Turbo embossed in it, mine has the 3/4 seat.

So a running 12HT is a bonus.

Here's a couple of pics of the beast to ponder over, while I think about what I'm going to do with it.

It's also gotta set of sliding windows, which someone from Switzerland wants so I'll pull those out.

The interior is not too bad, just needs a bloody good clean

So try wiping the smile off my face :bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2:

You have a bone-fide basket case right there!
It must have been a grey import, I've never seen that dash/grill headlight combo before and I've never seen a sahara without the high roof.

To be completely honest if that is a 89' 12ht from memory the only model that fits that description for Australian sales was the white lightning GXL. But it's identity is so badly confused I don't even know what Frankenstein rig you've got there.

For some reason (probably their build and speed) the 60 in Australia was affectionately known as the iron pig.

X2 on the high roof-sahara comments, looks more like the aus GXL spec.model.
Sahara models did come with 3rd row and dual AC.Does this one have third row??.
GXL with round headlights:hmm:.
Show us the modelcode..

I'll do some further checking because it confused me a bit too, all I have looked at so far is the compliance plate which is original that says 12HT and 1989, will have another look, there is no third row seat but there's a lot of junk in the back so I'll have to see if there are mounts and seatbelt holes, it does not have the rear aircon

Hey Spudman, I am pretty sure that the third shifter is a mechanical locker. There was another guy here in the 60's section that had one he bought in California with the same set up. Do a search for HJ60 or 61, not sure which one it was. Nice build thread and good work on the rust repair. I don't feel so bad about tackling the rust in the drivers side rear window now.

Found it but its not the same as you have. This is the thread title (Where did these options on my FJ-60 come from?)

Where did these options on my FJ-60 come from?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay Cruiserheads, I need some help figuring out the lineage of my 1987 FJ60. (I’ve handed over the keys to my daughter, who said that she was curious about the unusual options it apparently came from the factory with.)

I purchased my 60 from a young woman in Los Angeles in 2007 for $2000. (Yes, that’s right, $2000!) It came with full-floating axles front and rear with cable lockers. It also has the H55 transmission, which according to the woman I purchased it from, was how it came from the dealership when her father, the original owner, purchased it new in 1987.

I found the original registration in the car and sure enough, her father was the original owner. However, since he passed away about 5 years ago, I can’t get any details on how these rare options ended up on the 60. I found the original bill of sale, which shows that it was purchased at a Toyota dealership in Torrance, California, which is not too far from where I live in San Gabriel, California. It has its factory owner’s manual, which explains in detail how to operate the cable lockers, but I am not sure if all factory owner manuals have this information in them as well.

So, how did these options end up on my FJ60? I thought that the full-floaters, cable lockers and the 5-speed were not options in the American FJ60s? Any ideas on how these options ended up on my FJ60 from the dealership? (If you need any additional information from me to help figure this out, please let me know what you need!)

Pictures didn't show up from this thread, Sorry

Hey Bluehawk, thanks for the comments mate, yeah it's turned into a mystery but it's more likely it is the same setup that was mentioned before with the 4 speed box, so maybe they did make one for the 5 speed.

Did you read all the comments on that thread, I don't want mine to end up like that

Ok this morning I went outside and conducted a thorough inspection on this white 60 as I think it's best to put this to bed and get back on track with my current build.

I looked closely at the vehicle and the decals are only on the doors and the tail gate, so I think it is obvious they're not original.

I then had a closer look at the front end, they're are tell tell signs that the front section has been unbolted and probably replaced

So in conclusion, I have an original factory 12HT and Sahara parts have been placed on the vehicle.

Definitely no White Lightning :bang:

No white lightning but a good rig for donor none the less! Good investigating too.

I see this kind of damage a lot between the NSW Sth coast and inner west. Usually it's an eastern grey on dust coming down an embankment and before you know it your playing hide and seek with the damn thing and just when you think you've gone past it 2 things happen;

1) the bastard runs smack into the side if your rig and makes an obsolete meal out of it,

2) his mates come out and you front end them turning them into boomerangs that don't come back.

The tailgate being the exception but then again I've seen plenty if 60's where the trailer hitch is too high and when reversing up an embankment decides the tailgate is a nice place to make a new home.

Either way it looks like years of panel damage resolved quickly with a donor car.

At any rate who really cares, what you really paid for was the rust free panels and the 12ht! The rest is bonus.

Spot on Crick,

Anyway back to my build

So today I removed the bucket seat out of the pig to put into the The Grub (hope it doesn't get confusing), as mine as the 3/4 seat, so I had to drill out the bracket for the bucket seat and the donor vehicle had a console so I also drilled out the spot welds on those brackets as well.

So with that I have an immaculate Turbo embossed 3/4 seat and an average drivers bucket seat for sale, so I need to advertise those.

Btw if anyone in Perth is interested in buying the seats, I will deliver them at Christmas time as I am driving to Perth, so if interested message me and we'll work something out

Next thing on the agenda is to workout how to remove the power windows, central locking, power mirrors and the wiring harnesses :steer:

It's amazing what things you find under the seats.

I removed the 3/4 seat and underneath the seat I found this black box, it's made by General Electric, it has a power cord, another socket with wires and an antennae plug.

So I'd just like to know if it's a Toyota thing or aftermarket, it looks like it has an opening for CD's or something but I couldn't get it to operate

You sure have some weird stuff.
Without seeing from all angles I can hazard a guess at maybe a stereo amp? That's where both if mine area. The GE part is weird though bc so far as I know they didn't make car stereo gear....

It looks almost like a pd installation.
You'd have to take it out and take some more pics and or trace the wires back.

I wouldn't mind betting that originally it was a govt. car and had a 2 way fitted... I found a similar black box under a rear seat in a parts 60 I have...

Oh yeah Spud... I'll be thru Halls ck next Thursday with an empty b double... I've got the $100 for the 12ht 60, so can you have the tyres pumped and a gallon of diesel in it for me..... thanx man

On yer OZ your 60 will be here waiting for you, :censor: but it won't be the 12HT :grinpimp:

With that thing under the seat I'll try and find a part number and do a search on the internet, but you could be right OZ

There are lots of "low roof" saharas around. The sahara tag was related to trim and extras standard, it was only related to the high roof as most sahara were high roof.It became an easy way to identify them.

I've never seen one, but yeah they probably are out there, but this one is definitely a GX and Sahara mixed into one

Yeah that'll make the sepos cry. Don't go putting ideas like that out there into the ether I would stab you in the neck 12 times before I saw a 12ht go for $100 in any condition.
Imagine someone randomly searching prices for 12ht's and they stumbled across that post, FARK me that would set a new precedent!

I personally know a guy who bought a white lightning 60 for $350/400 about a year ago.....ran fine and was in reasonable (save able) condition....he took the motor and box for his 75 and wrecked the rest....I was crying when he told me..... But sucked it up and bought the long range tank and spare carrier for $150/200 ish....
