Woah!

I think the only way one can get away with running those meats is on slippery surfaces. Put that thing on dry rocks with lots of traction and start tallying up the breakage list. Assuming of course there are stock bits in there behind those tires.

That being said, its a purpose built ice rig and its soooooo sweet.

edit: Just saw the latest pics..... doesn't look like a cruiser bolt pattern, could be adapters. dunno.
 
I have tire envy. Now all you need is a ladder to climb in and an escape hatch the bottom center to run out of and of course a .50 cal turret mount on the top. Sweet rig.

none taken, although I thought you meant offence, it´s hard to catch peoples tone through the internet sometimes :)

This project is a rebuild of sorts, the first pic you see (which looks a bit tattered) is how the truck was, but the guy who´s working on it now bought it from the previous owner.

It´s running axles from a Unimog, with custom brakes and boltpatterns, think he made the rims as well.
Coils back and rear, probably hydro assist steering (full hydro is not legal on the road).
12H-t engine and a auto tranny from god know what with a crawlerbox.

And if you think turning on rocks is hard, just try it with 18" wide rims 1-2psi airpressure in 2 feet dense snow, a real good workout if the powersteering isn´t up to spec :)

All I can say is: holy cow.

Did you have to relocate fuel tank as well to make it all fit?
 
The front fenders and hood will get stretched 12", and the fender flares should end up at around 17" wide each. That is according to the guy updating the build thread, one of the two owners.

That thing should look very clean when all is said and done if that guy's previous rigs are any indication.

The rims are stock unimog rims, widened and fitted with 8 lug centers. If I remember correctly that thing has Tacoma disc brakes F&R and the newer 8 lug spacing, E-brake is a T-case mounted Nissan Patrol unit. The hubs have been drilled for a tire inflation system that will be controlled from the cab. The 8 lug centers were chosen for future availability of wheels and for increased strength over the 6 lug 5,5" spacing that is also very common here and was considered.

Definitely the most interesting rig in a long time.
