, something else I didn't think about. Back to just useing the 40 bushing and drilling out to fit the pin. I think it would take a long time to wear out even a reamed out bushing.

I've got the bushings bought, so that's how I'm doing it.

Should be a total of 16/10,000th to remove from the wall of the bushing, right?

Wonder if it'd do that much harm to press the bushings in and ream with a 5/16ths, with the hinge body acting as reinforcement?

I obviously don't know, but don't hesitate to try whatever you think may "git 'er dun". I have plenty of hinges and can have more bushings in that size, at your door in a couple of days.

Have searched the Internet for what I thought would've been a perfect fit without drilling center, to no avail, and best I ever came up with was a having a neighboring business turn down Delron or bronze solid, leaving the "head" or lip at the OAL dimension, then cutting in half, pressing into center of hinge, then drilling out the center a few thousandth under the pin diameter

OR

An 8mm needle bearing, ordered to length, pressed into the entire hinge, with a 6mm pin welded or braised to the top and bottom.

Theory there was, in thirty more years, advancements in 3D scanning would allow for new hinges to be machined or cast, relatively easily.

My point, I have a full Pigs worth of unneeded hinges and those particular bushings are readily available.

If you want to try something that may be out of the box, don't hesitate to, even if it ruins any from future use, since all for the common good.

Take a look at these......

I tested these today. No drilling, no resizing, just a little technique. Then touched up the paint.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

They are tight as a tick. You will have to use both hands to open the door the first few times......

I realized after I did these two that I didn't remember which way the hinges are put together! I have to look at some of my other hinges to verify assembly is correct, then I can proceed with the others.

The hood hinge needs an e clip on the catch rod, and it will be finished. It is very difficult to disassemble without destroying the pin. The pin is an odd shape that is mushroomed on the end to hold it in place. I had to grind a small amount off to get it apart, and carefully mushroom the end again. It looks mostly OEM. I think it would go unnoticed by even the pickiest observer. I am actually pretty proud of the job I did on it.

When do you need the door hinges back? If you are in a rush I will push to have them out to you by the end of the week, otherwise, I will shoot for Monday.

Awesome news on good hinges, along with the others.

Can't express appreciation enough.

No hurry. The entire rear sill had to be fabbed, along with a one list of other unplanned corrections, so the doors aren't in need of hanging anything soon.

Midgainc,

ok, you going to tell us how you pressed them in there, without drilling. I understand if trade secret. :)

They do look great!

Oh, it's a trade secret alright! I will get a guy in the shop to video me assembling one and see if I can post.
Can you put videos on the forum?

YEAH!

Great job! They look terrific and if they are tight all the better! Thanks for taking this task on to become our hinge expert!!!!

because the pressing pins is where a lot of us have been challenged (or lets just say P****ed ) will the video have commentary? Will it be G rated? ;)

:cheers::cheers::cheers: Thanks again!!!!

by the time I got up there, my help had left today. So, I will have to video work on my personal hinges. They are ready for assembly, so it should not be long. As far as rated, well, it will be family friendly, in spite of the swollen thumbs and knuckles!

I finished the assembly of Delancy's today. The only thing left is the other hood hinge, which I am trying to put off indefinitely. What a pain. I realized my dilemma today. With the hinges in pieces, I do not know which way the hinges align. I kept the pairs together, but I had to photo some hinges on doors that I have just to be sure. Once I got to the shop, I was uncertain if the hinges were flip-flopped for the opposite side (PS vs DS.) Having said that, before I send them out to Delancy, I will have to remove all 8 hinges from my doors, mark them, and use them as a template to be sure that they are assembled correctly. For a newbie like me, it is not obvious how they go together.

Check out the stack! sorry about the poor lighting and black background.

Midgainc,

Would you mind passing on the info on those new hinge springs. How do you like them? I've got a bent one and would like to replace with new.

Thanks again,

Ron

I have not tested them with a door yet. I will be sending out this week to Delancy. They appear an exact replacement to the OEM. I am going to send his old ones back with him, in case he doesn't like them. They should work great.

I finished the other hood hinge yesterday. Upon closer inspection, it appears to be slightly bent. I think it will be fine, though. I have to find and e clip for it also.

Thanks!

They look Fantastic!!! Really look great - if they work as good as they look, I think this is something that will help every pig keeper out there. I always wear my seat belt and always check my door closed fit just to make sure I don't fall out.

When your ready for another test run I'd love to send you driver side hinges - along with $ and what ever beverage is your choice! A couple months ago I was lucky enough to buy a spare set so that I could try and rework them - but with the move to retirement and all my shop stuff being in storage until I get this house sold and I get a new house set up -:frown: no progress.

Thanks again for putting the time - effort - and expertise into this. We all needed to find a solution.

We will find out soon enough about the quality of work. The hinges will hopefully go out tomorrow to Delancy. If they pass his muster, then it is a go for all. It is fun solving problems.

I was working in another office today, so was away all day. I will be going in to usual spot tomorrow, and will look. I posted on you 76 piggy thread.

I got the box with the pumps, in it, I think on Friday. I have not opened it yet, though. I have been swamped with gathering parts, fixing hinges, working occasionally, etc. I will open tomorrow and compare to what I have. Thanks.
